Wear a face mask in public to slow COVID-19, says CDC — 'I don’t think I’m going to be doing it,' says Trump

Really? Very uncomfortable.
To each his own.

To be fair, it is something that I would think to myself. I’m asocial but have lived among normies so long that I pick up that it would not go down well with them. As they are the majority I go along mostly with their ways, when in Rome style. It has made my peripatetic life experience easier to blend in with local norms and normies so there are benefits. Work to your strengths, aspies.

However I’m not in charge of the largest socialist republic in the world so my faux pas are not literaly earth destroying. The Cheetoinchief is and he should really watch his mouth.

There are few things at play. When the rates of infection in a population are really low and people aren’t used to wearing masks they can increase risk. They do this because people who aren’t used to masks inevitably mess with them frequently, bringing their hands into contact with their face more often. There is also the issue that if only a small percentage of the population is wearing them, they don’t add much benefit. The early risk calculations were different in a lot of Asian countries because of previous experience with things like SARS that both taught people the need and the process of wearing it properly. Once we had a large population of asymptomatic carriers the risk balance shifts strongly to favoring masks. I personally think that line was crossed a long time ago, but I’m not privy to any supply line numbers that might shift that balance a little bit.

Pinch a BA set off a merchant ship. It’s not like anyone gives tuppenny damn about those guys anyway. (Yes, I am a bitter and twisted old git. What is your next question, Kiddo?)

It used to be that fire fighting engineroom staff could have only limited face fungus as the BA sets were demand only and fuzz won’t allow a reliable vacuum on them so it may not allow air into the mask or would allow fumes/smoke etc into the breathing air. With positive pressure masks these problems go away but a new one arises in that positive pressure allows constant leakage from the mask into the outside reducing time on air.
Masks are always tested for integrity before going on air so adjustments for face fuzz can be made. Once in the death zone sweat can still compromise the seal but that is true of even the babiest bottom shaves and also responsible for the move to positive from vacuum demand types. People (Yes seamen are human beings) were dying from toxic fumes slipping into masks.

Tell her to take as much Gorilla tape and glue as she can manage! That stuff is awesome… My little stint working in Wisconsin a few years ago introduced me to the stuff and Home Despot. I’ve been smitten with Gorilla ever since as it allowed me to make stuff in minutes, 30 ft up in the air without the need for welders and all the paperwork that required. The same brand in the UK seems weaker somehow. Hope you all stay safe!

PS I’m sure there are better brands and products available. Let me know, down below as the YouTubers say!

Some people were joking about doing that before epidemic got really serious in Europe:

I shave regularly, so I can get away with something less hardcore  :

And feels it’s full force.
If that makes me a bad person, so be it.

Or, if you potentially have the virus, but are asymptomatic, wear the mask. So, if you feel sick, or don’t feel sick, it’d be good to wear the mask.

It’s one of those things like taxes, it’s probably ok if other people do it, but not people like him.

If my comment made you more uncomfortable than imagining Trump drooling on a ball gag, I can’t help you!

A good leader leads by example. 'Nuff said.

I think that we all wish that he would.
Do face masks cover the whole body and muffle the voice?

Thank you, this is the information I was hoping for. My son is a BSN working the emergency department in a large regional hospital. Thus far the hospital has enough equipment for him but I need a good mask for if and when I have to go into town get supplies.
Also thank you for not assuming I’m an uncaring jerk just because I’d like to keep the beard I’ve had for 45 years. I thought there would a solution.
Stay safe and well in this scary period of life.

Just his appearance would probably scare the virus off. I love that.

I’m partway into making mine- I think the nurse on the webpage must have a petite face- it won’t be big enough to cover a beard. If you’re going to use that pattern, I’d guess printing it at 150%. You could cut just the one piece, safety pin the pleats, and see how much it covers. Just remember the mask will lose and inch in height and width bc of seams.
You might also try two bandanas- keep em square, stitch together, put a seam on each side for some elastic or even hair bands, so it scrunches at the side.

If you needed to wear an N95, it would be unwise to keep it. Not jerk-ish, just unwise. But if all you need is a cloth mask, keep your beard! Just make or get one big enough to stuff your glorious beard into it. It’s not as if a cloth mask gives a good seal anyway.

ETA: to fix the weird auto correct. It changed jerk-ish to Jewish! I really need to proof before posting, sorry.
