long time since I saw it, for some reason I thought they were brothers.
Itâs the treasonous symbol of a failed rebellion, the battle flag that was used to wage an actual war against the US of A. If there was ever anything more deserving of the label âUn-Americanâ, it is the confederate battle flag.
Exactly. Ditto for the obsession of naming things after Robert E. Lee or Jefferson Davis common in the South. They were traitors. Nobody glorifies Benedict Arnold, do they?
You guys have nobody to blame but yourselves. If the state of south carolina hadnât made a huge political issue for years over the display of a racist symbol of oppression at the capitol building, there wouldnât be a rush of private companies looking to take them off their shelves. The thing is, us bleeding heart liberals donât actually want to ban the flag the way the nazi flag is banned in much of europe. I think it would be silly if civil war re-enactments or period video games and movies had to censor flags. While I assume that people who display the flag on their house or car, rather than in a museum or historical recreation are racist assholes, I donât really think stopping them from buying flags at Walmart or Amazon is going to make them better people, it will just make them harder to spot from a distance.
But when the state participates in a made up bullshit story and refuses to remove a symbol deliberately designed to make black people feel unwelcome in their own statehouse, of course private companies are going to try to do what they can when the government refuses to do the right thing.
Doesnât seem to have been the best idea ever. Dead at 38.
Charles was physically and mentally disabled and infertile, possibly due to this massive inbreeding. Due to the deaths of his half brothers, he was the last member of the male Spanish Habsburg line.
Charles did not learn to speak until the age of four nor to walk until eight, and was treated as virtually an infant until he was ten years old. His jaw was so badly deformed (an extreme example of the so-called Habsburg jaw) that he could barely speak or chew.
Dating to approximately the year 1550, outbreeding in Charles IIâs lineage had ceased. From then on, all his ancestors were in one way or another descendants of Joanna and Philip I of Castile, and among these just the royal houses of Spain, Austria and Bavaria. Charles IIâs genome was actually more homozygous than that of a child whose parents are siblings. He was born physically and mentally disabled, and disfigured. Possibly through affliction with mandibular prognathism, he was barely able to chew. His tongue was so large that his speech could barely be understood, and he frequently drooled. It has been suggested that he suffered from the endocrine disease acromegaly, or his inbred lineage may have led to a combination of rare genetic disorders such as combined pituitary hormone deficiency and distal renal tubular acidosis.
In Pike County GA, there will be no gay marriages performed, nor straight ones, nor any sort of civil marriages. The county gubmint is getting out of the marriage bidness. Ruht ro.
Iâm not supporting the flag in any way, but surely the most immediate problem here is the guns, not the flags?
so⌠you honor him? I assume thatâs at your house, since there is zero context as to what that is beyond just a plaque - it is not a street, college, highway or courthouse named after him. It could easily be at a flea market among the national socialist and confederate junque you can get at fine flea markets.
One plaque is a good try!
The comment says ânobody glorifiesâ - well someone did (or even does) - And I wish it was my house - 62 Gloucester Place, London is worth $2.5M.
My point, though rather bluntly put, was context is everything. History is often written by the victor - but the losing side often gets to put their spin on it. Terrorist Insurgency by Wealthy Landowners? Or Popular Uprising Against Tyranny By The Masses?
There is also a stained glass window in his honour at St Maryâs Church, Battersea.
The Brits got rid of their slaves in 1830. The Americans kept theirs until 1865.
I love how screaming about POLITICAL CORRECTNESS is almost always code for, âIâm angry that I canât be openly racist/sexist/generally bigoted anymore without someone calling me out on it.â
IndeedâŚmany states allow 1st cousin marriages or donât bother to enforce the ban. First cousins are not raised in the same household - emotionally itâs not like they are brother & sister.
The main concern with 1st cousin marriage is the increased risk of inherited birth defects. This risk however is more of a concern in cultures and regions where 1st cousin marriage is common - or is considered the norm. In the United States 1st cousin marriage for most people is not the norm so the occasional 1st cousin marriage is less likely to be a problem. HoweverâŚthe Duke Boys are dudes and the technology does not yet exist for them to share a biological child so I donât see anything wrong with it. Itâs a TV show, yo!
Anyway - I always had a (good) feeling about them Duke Boys.
The Duke Boysâ backstory was never shared with the public - it was top secret. But it was shared with select actors in the Dukes of Hazard .In the backstory, the boys had a sort of speakeasy which was an underground gay community center that also served drinks.
Boss Hogg and his deputy - Rosco IIRC - according to the BS - had a closeted, yet commonly known-not talked about intimate relationship; very much like the relationship between Jim Lahey & his younger sidekick Randy in the TV series The Trailer Park Boys. The backstory had The Duke Boys and Hogg/Rosco having a sort of business frenemy relationship. This BS provided the motivation for the actors although the backstory was never explicitly mentioned in the script - any mention of the BS in the script was forbidden ('cause the 70âs.)
Perhaps the eventual reimagining/rebooting of this series should take this very interesting gay backstory out of the Closet and make the Dukes of Hazard the sort of series is was meant to be. Kind of like what they did with the rebooted Battle Star Galactica series.
Cheers!!!
BTWâŚI am too lazy to dig around for references right now. Itâs really hot here and Iâm savoring the last few legal days of not-quite-legal-yet marijuana. July 1stâŚI mixed feelings about it. Well, as they say, âEvery Silver Lining Has a Touch of Grey.â After the Federal Government inevitably legalizes pot - I will really need to start maybe thinking about planning a new way to passively Stick It to the Man. Consuming my weed is so much less time consuming than protesting & sit-ins.
Yet again, The Man is attempting micromanaging me & this is a real bummer.
This is a twofer I can get behind. Although I am kind of disappointed that Kanye didnât get to fully appropriate the flag.
