And to be quite honest we are all the more civilized for the lack of such. Laws like that are only fig leaves so Doogoodniks can feel they have done something about the problem.
I agree. That’s why I get really frustrated (as apparently do others with me) when people tell me that I “don’t even think racism is real”, or other such dismissals. If I didn’t think it was real, I would not acknowledge that it is a huge problem with very real effects upon people - myself included.
Where I think the difference might be is that being a social construct I think it relies largely upon consensus. Consensus about what race itself is, how it does and should function socially, what racism as a problem is, and so on. BUT I see this consensus as a continuous process that we participate in, rather than simply subjected to. For some reason I think that this difference is what angers people. Not unlike happens in other discussions about consensus values and protocols, such as with regards to money. Many insist that the consensus has to be a foregone conclusion, already decided by others, not something ongoing which we also participate in. But I think it is always being renegotiated, and can never be taken for granted.
That can be seen as both a curse and a blessing. It does make society something of a constant struggle. But it also means that humanity is always reinventing itself.
We don’t play rounders in our country, so I didn’t understand that post.
You need to stop for at least another week or two.
It’s much harder to convince people to listen to your unique viewpoint when you’re kicking them while they’re down.
Also Jerry Moran, but he’s from Plainville.
That’s okay. Not everything is about you.
A blade which cuts both ways; so thank you for being an example of kindness.
I did understand your post; I just thought it wasn’t funny because actual people named Moran have to put up with stupid name calling. But given your passive-aggressive tone, I’ll avoid commenting on your posts in future.
Who am I “kicking”, and how?
Directed at whoever you think needs to stop
It is not in the US, nor do I think it should be.
Welcome to my world!
People are being clear about what they don’t want to hear, at least. That’s something.
Oh they are everywhere. Didn’t mean to imply otherwise.
Kudos to your grandfather.
I can hurl insults too: Potato.
it’s not given frequently, good job!
Aw, shucks!
I certainly miss my mom’s hybrid Neurth Cahrolinuh/Fleuriduh accent, though. She’s been too long in Kansass.
“Understanding is a three edged sword: your side, their side, and the truth.”
I came here to post this, I don’t agree with the title choice, but the points therein are spot on.
Sorry, the truth has been abolished; didn’t you get the memo?
