The extra shitty thing about this is that it buries the legitimate stories about athletes being robbed, kidnapped, etc.

The one redeeming facet of this incident is that it shows us how much the every day people have in common with Olympians like Ryan Lochte:
We and now Ryan Lochte lack the ability to command tens of millions of dollars in product endorsements.
I can’t believe this is the first time he acted like an ass. Why did his coach, his parents, his swim team, the Olympics people and Speedo not do anything about it until this? I’d say it was pure greed.
But also because sports and success in sports are highly venerated, so lots of bad behavior by athletes (especially men) get tolerated (and in some cases, even actively encouraged).
