I became far to acquainted with this in the past two months when my partner had a stroke. It is not pleasant but better than nothing. The coffee was genuinely scary looking.

Heavy water won’t kill you in normal quantities, but it will make you dizzy, as the water in your inner ear changes in density. Also, it tastes sweet.

Harmless enough, if we are talking deuterated water. Up to a point, anyway.
The interesting effects should start once you’ve replaced ~20% of your body’s water with heavy water, and keep going. (Hint: heavy water affects mitosis in mammals.)
