Hagfish to a degree gruesomely figure in Martin Cruz Smith’s detective thriller novel Polar Star. Perhaps worth a read (for some) just for the hagfish scene.

That’s where I first came across them. That autopsy scene suddenly veers off in to “Alien” territory. I was thinking “WTF!” Have then looked the critters up, I was even more repelled :scream: :face_vomiting: :laughing:

This creature resembles the ancient Macedonian snake cult mascot Glycon.
Gylcon was worshipped in the 160s AD as a god.
