What will Biden's impeachment look like

I’m not sure that any federal position, particularly one that high, can really be considering meaningless. Anthony Comstock didn’t hold a position that high, being “only” a ‘special agent’ postal inspector, yet his influence is a still a cancer on our country.

Poor example on my part. You’re right. But there are a lot of positions he could be nominated for ( and re-nominated, as necessary) to block him from taking the role of Speaker.

Sorry, no. Democrats are on track to lose both houses, especially after Fetterman’s difficult debate.

Sure, there’s two weeks to turn it around, but it would take a miracle.

Like people not giving up because things seem to be heading the other way. I don’t know why that’s a miracle, but man do these boards have a lot of people advising to shrug and accept inevitable doom.

I’m not giving up. I’m writing postcards to swing state voters, and will be call banking.

What are you doing?

Yes, I’m sure Republican voters all over the country were glued to their TVs for that one.

Where’s your evidence? Polls, which have become notoriously unreliable, or ?

Challenging disinformation. Other things.

The polling goes back and forth literally every day. Everyone here is planning for the worst-case scenario. That doesn’t mean that scenario is the only one.

I’ll let others address your victim-blaming of women specifically, but it sounds like it’s your style.

ETA:

An absurd claim not grounded in reality or basic math. More than 70% of Americans polled are consistently opposed to the restrictions on abortion rights that right-wing extremists are trying to impose on the country.

Yeah, and how dare younger people have other issues at the top of their minds, things like climate change and gun laws. I guess if abortion isn’t the tippy top, it means they just don’t give a shit, not that people can have multiple priorities. Smdh.

Hmmmmmmm. Yeah, it’s not a sure thing the GOP will take the House and/or Senate but it’s very, very likely. Take a look at how the Dems are scrambling trying to save seats they previously thought were safe. It’s not pretty.

Assuming the GOP takes the House, a Biden impeachment might be one of their least destructive acts. They are likely to target the DoJ and turn off MAGA-related investigations. Those they can’t turn off, they will defund and hand out immunity to the perps. Few of these “What’s going to happen after the GOP takes the House” articles mention immunity. However, various GOPers have said, outright, that they are planning on starting dozens of investigations, largely aimed at handing out immunity. Also, they are going to be very bad for Ukraine. I don’t think they can instantly turn off Ukraine aid but they should be able to cripple US diplomatic efforts (which are complex and involve a lot of countries) related to Ukraine. It seems likely they can also cripple various intelligence operations and start handing out gifts to Russia, like pressuring Ukraine into a ceasefire.

MTG is likely to run the Oversight committee and since their “oversight” and investigations are shams, they are not going to be restrained by practical, legal, or ethical concerns. Every significant Biden official, and large slices of the Executive branch, are going to have to lawyer up and spend their days being questioned by Jim Jordan. Regulatory agencies are going to be crippled by targeted defunding and sham investigations. A bunch of MAGAs who ought to be in jail, say, Kash Patel and Stephen Miller, are going to be hired as Congressional investigators and given various legal powers to dig through Dem’s lives and records. It’s going to be messy.

You left out the damage they’ll be doing to the electoral system from both DC and local offices in preparation for 2024. You also left out a national abortion ban, legalised discrimination against trans people, a national version of Florida’s “don’t say gay” law, the dismantling of environmental regulations and the Green New Deal, etc.

We understand all these consequences, we are preparing for them (esp. those who are actually at the top of the fascists’ target lists). What we aren’t saying is that it’s inevitable, because that’s the kind of defeatist talk that tells others they might as well not bother showing up to the polls.

If you convince yourself that every fight is always lost, then you don’t have to put up a fight or invest yourself into anything.

Cynicism is the Oxycodon of the masses.

Beau of the 5th Column, who I view as a voice of reason, is saying that the election is most probably going to be swung by “unlikely voters”, people who don’t normally vote or aren’t registered with a party. Beau’s read is that a lot of women in Red States may well make their mark to protect their own lives and the futures of their daughters. I’ve got my fingers crossed that he is correct, and that the polls are working off a poor data set.

Edit: I may be repeating what you said; I’m having trouble focusing at the moment.

Whenever I read or hear about polls claiming how people feel, I recall that I have never, ever been polled. They aren’t talking to all of us. There’s a lot that doesn’t show up. It gives me hope.

More unsubstantiated prognostication.

It was also considered “very, very likely” that HRC would trounce Tromp. Look what happened.

A lot of these polls are still done via phone landline. That’s going to skew things toward a very specific demographic, one which tends to vote GOP.

This will lead to war with the UK. Everyone thinks that’s normal here.

I think the more pertinent question is, do you consider hotdogs sandwiches?

I’m not sure how the polls are conducted, butt one surmises that the results reflect some subset of Americans who still answer cold calls. (I mean, I do, but. I keep a vuvuzela handy.)

Edit for seplling etc.

Well, one would have to consult with the current Earl of Sandwich.
