I always say (well, I’ve said it once) my goal is omnipresence, because then I’ll no longer have to commute.
The first series was reprinted fairly recently - I do see it’s still available on Amazon. There have been new books every once in a while over the last few years. A new one, High Stakes is coming out at the end of August. I love this series and started reading them back in the late '80s when they were still published under the Bantam label.
I am glad “time freeze” is NOT my superpower.
I’m such a procrastinator, I’d simply wind up living out my life in a temporal loop because I’d never get around to finishing that project that has to be done in the next five minutes.
Edit: This would make a great comic panel. Perhaps I can overcome my procrastination to finish one.
Another real-life superpower of mine was the ability to completely jam my ex-spouse’s mind. All it took was for me to whisper the word “Monchichi” and it would activate an ancient advertising virus which would unpack to fill their entire cognitive space for hours.
Oooh a new one! If I remember the last one, Lowball ended on a “uh oh, what is coming next” note. So a resolution would be appreciated.
I have been reading the series since the Bantam days as well.
Zero-displacement invisibility, because then I can combine my two favorite activities: being by myself and observing everyday public* life. Basically, I’d like to be a walking ghost minus the whole spooking-the-hell-out-of-everyone thing.
*I feel the need to emphasize this because I am not a voyeur. Just enjoy people-watching. I also just realized that I’d have to find a private space in order to pop back into my displaced, visible self, which means I’d be the Clark Kent of restroom stalls.
But then you are easy to get a hold of. You can’t avoid annoying people so easily.
Since you mentioned D&D, isn’t that a Lawful Evil Candle of Invocation?
Light the candle, gate in an efreeti, wish for more candles. repeat as many times as needed. Just remember to always have at least one candle spare.
I happily stand on the shoulders of giants
And yes, I’m a complete and total nerd, and completely unashamed of that fact. Luckily my uncool child self is surprisingly acceptable as an adult!
Speaking of superpowers…could you possibly kill a teleporter who plays by the rules of Nightcrawler (only spaces he can see or remember/imagine) by using mirrors falsifying open spaces?
Happened to be thinking of Nightcrawler and Secret of the Slavers’ Stockade at the same time.
Ross Noble’s superpower:
Really?
Changed my mind, I’d like to be able to understand Finnegans Wake instead.
hey, this game is about mere superpowers, not divine omnipotence
I was watching a youtube video of a british one-liner comedian the other night (from the 90s, maybe).
“A friend of mine asked me, ‘If you could have any superpower you liked, what would you take?’ and I said I’d take the Cold War Soviet Union.”
- Having the ability to understand and speak any language.
- Not needing to eat or sleep.
These seem useful to me.
