Just got a friend hip to it today; he really enjoyed the first ep.
Are we talking weirder than Samurai Flamenco? I have been seeing Jo Jo in my suggestions for a while and it has my curiosity up…
I’ve been watching Amazon Prime’s “The Wheel of Time.” I must say, I am enjoying it, and the production values are much better than I expected. I don’t really remember enough of the books to say how faithful it is, though.
Lovely. From Liberty to Ennui. My only complaint is that it wasn’t two hours longer.
Is It a kind of psychdelic Aleph? With Michelle Yeoh, I am in.
We get 8 movies per month. They have a highly eclectic catalogue, with occasionally some very recent Hollywood flicks, and much older stuff like Metropolis. We recently watched Hunt For The Wilderpeople and all eight episodes of Ken Burns’ loooooong history of country music.
We also have Hoopla through our library, although I haven’t used it as much.
ETA: I just checked Hoopla for the first time in a while, and they have a much more impressive list of titles than I remembered. They also have a Roku channel, like Kanopy, so I can watch on the larger screen.
There’s an interesting reveal where you finally find out who Red res is.
This kinda looks like a reboot of The One
but I guess it’s not
This one?
I have not seen it, either. But the cast looks good (Jet Li, Delroy Lindo, Carla Gugino, Jason Statham…
the guys who directed the Yeoh film also did Swiss Army Man, which everyone raved about and I still have not convinced my family we should watch…
Yeah that one, but I only know it from the trailer
From the trailer at least this one seems a bit different from “The One”
That one was Jet Li from the multiverse jumping 'verses to kill all the other versions of himself. It was ok from what I recall. This one seems a bit different (and better imo)
The One was part of the frenzy of CGI action films right after The Matrix came out, so people might have had trouble evaluating it on its own merits
We thought we wanted Matrix sequels instead
RE: The One
Good idea, poor execution, terrible ending.
Watch with low expectations and you’ll be fine.
I just finished watching

which is rather odd since Auntie isn’t showing it yet but the whole series is available on the ZDF mediathek. Including the option for the english audiotrack.
Very different to the excellent Niven film and the book but an excellent thing in its own right.
People might not realize it, but the 20th anniversary of the release of the first LOTR films is coming up… Tolkein superfan Stephen Colbert made a song about it…
Some quality and unexpected cameos…

Personally I recommend skipping all of Jet’s English language films, except Danny the Dog / Unleashed. I think it’s that the directors, editors and stunt teams in Hollywood still don’t understand how to make a good martial arts film. Jet’s 80’s and 90’s Hong Kong films are just superior to the later US stuff on every level (except budget and um, on-set safety).
Fist of Legend, Tai Chi Master, Once Upon a Time in China I, II & III, Swordsman II & III, My Father is a Hero, High Risk, New Legend of Shaolin are all incredibly entertaining films, but my absolute favorite Jet Li movie is Fong Sai Yuk.
looks good to me (a fellow animation aficionado)
They have some footage too.
