Whatcha Watchin' (Season 2)

Why take it away? I just don’t get that. I know it wasn’t a big hit, but it seems bizarre that they’d dump if off entirely, when it was their first show…

I enjoyed it for what it was… Good for a few larfs…

I mean if it wasn’t a big success I can’t see that they can get money licensing it elsewhere. I didn’t see it but I have friends who enjoyed it. I always found his stunt casting funny(the mob boss from New Jersey, his lieutenant is played by, get this THE Boss from New Jersey’s lieutenant - can he act? Hell no, we’ll make a running joke of his terrible imitation of the Godfather to emphasise it and everyone will pretend to be impressed! Genius!) so gave it a pass.

These days I’d be far more likely to watch it than the Sopranos though. Don’t think I’d have the stomach.

I finally got to see Clerks III. It was enjoyable, however it’s my least favorite of the films and perhaps of all of Kevin Smith’s work. Did not like the story. It’s not a bad story. It’s just not a story in which I appreciated certain events in the beginning and end. It also seemed to be shot poorly, but that could be due to the literal physical limitations of shooting in the store.

I laughed a lot. I even watched it a second time to show it to my wife. But I just wasn’t happy with it.

OMG, the third episode with F. Murray Abraham!

Started watching this on Netflix, and it’s funny/interesting so far:

The actress who plays Alicja, Anna Romantowska, sometimes makes me wonder if long-missing Kruggerands will figure into the plot at some point.

Yeah, so far, the casting is great. As @knoxblox the F. Murray Abraham and Glynn Turman episode was fantastic (and creepy as hell). I was trying to remember what else I saw Turman in, and recently, it was Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, John Dies at the end, and American Gods…

And Tim Blake Nelson (episode 1) is always great. I wasn’t familiar with the other actor Demetrius Grosse, but apparently he’s in Fear the Walking Dead?

Just watched the 1936 film Things to Come based on a screenplay by HG Wells.
I wouldn’t say it was a great film but it had some interesting sets and special effects by 1930s standards.

Some of the film was prescient in its predictions but one thing I thought was funny was that it spans a century, ending in 2036 when a technoutopian society it just launching its first space mission ever. (Which many citizens inexplicably consider to be a step too far and violently protest.) So, despite his impressive imagination HG Wells expected it to take a full century to reach space but it actually happened just 25 years after the film was released.

Yes, he’s a minor role with an interesting backstory. One of the good guys.

Do we know what is going on with him? I have been wondering since the sudden departure from Mythic Quest after the season with an episode that really set up who his character is - weird time to depart, so I assume there is something going on there…

I’ve never seen this one. Maybe good for Halloween?

My memory is that it was awful!

That said I think I nicked something from it for college work about tech and futurism when the BFI did a remaster about 15 years ago so I thought it had something at least.

But I agree with William Gibson and suggest we “distrust this particular flavour” of futurism.

It has it’s good points, for sure. Liquid Satan? Count me in. Probably mid-level Carpenter. If you have not already seen it, also go for The Thing, which is his masterpiece as far as I am concerned

I’m assuming a wheelbarrow full of money from the creators of The White Lotus and Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities? :man_shrugging:

I wonder if this is because of increased Superman duties? I also really like him in the role and will be sad to see him go

@knoxblox Probably true! You pointing out how much work he is getting sorta puts to rest the worries I had about his sudden exit from MQ

I was pleasantly surprised to see Eion Bailey opposite Abraham. He’s good at “creepy”, like the self-help guru he played in Ray Donavan. From is an interesting show, but he’s playing a family man in that one.

SNL just did a “David S Pumpkins Returns” sketch and, as much as I love Tom Hanks, I was bewildered (in a bad way) because it was almost the exact same sketch as the original, only less funny. The comedic timing and dialogue doesn’t quite click this time, and they didn’t take the sketch in any new or interesting directions. It seems that the SNL team completely ran out of ideas so they just decided to go back to something that worked before in the hopes that they could catch lightning in a bottle twice.

I strongly recommend re-watching the the original and skipping this pointless remake. But if curiosity gets the better of you and you just have to see the new one, you’ve been duly warned.
