Whatcha Watchin' (Season 2)

Errementari, the Devil and the Blacksmith. Basque folklore, devils, liberals vs conservatives, children out of wedlock, murder and search for redemption.

I agree with this review. The ending was disappointing after such a good build-up over the first 5 episodes, precisely because it wrapped everything up in a nice bow without any real consequences:

So the first season of “Happy” was black and dark and violent and funny and just so fucking wrong.

Luckily, the second season is darker, funnier, more twisted, more violent and frankly, seriously fucked up, well beyond wrong. But as it wraps up, Patton Oswald’s Happy meets God (voiced by Jeff Goldblum) and it looks like a third season will be even more nuts.

If you can imagine a Quinten Tarantino-directed live-action remake of a “Ren and Stimpy” mashed up with “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”, then you may not need to watch “Happy”. But you should anyway.

So, good news!

Yay!

But also some bad news…

Boo!!!

That last season of the OA was uneven and poorly plotted; the inherent ‘weird’ factor notwithstanding.

I knew it wouldn’t be getting renewed after that entirely-too-meta season finale.

On another note, I started watching Jett and so far I like it.

Oh, I thought the finale was the best part of it. I liked the twist… but yeah, they could have had a much tighter story line for that second season. Oh well… We still got Aggretsuko!

Carla Gugino is not in nearly enough stuff! She was fantastic in the Haunting of Hill House.

I second the recommendation. The Last Kingdom is a good series in the vein of HBO’s Rome, a series that may fudge some dates and historical figures, but in the interest of showing what life was like back then, and to show the sort of dynamics that went on in that period. It’s a great way to get interested in the time of the Danelaw, of Alfred the Great and so on.

I am hearing good things about the fourth series, that we will be seeing more of Edward, and of Æthelflæd. Their historical reigns are are also rich with events.

Oh, and don’t forget Rutger Hauer’s apeparance as Ravn.

Nuanced read about the genre that “The Hunt” would have been part of:

Infinity Train was a short commissioned by Cartoon Network back in 2016. It was a big hit on YouTube, and it (finally!) got picked up as a full series last year.

Well, the first season just dropped this month. It’s amazing. It’s only ten 11-minute episodes, so it’s easy to plow through in an evening (provided you can get around the content locks on Cartoon Network’s site…), and it’s definitely worth the watch. It’s got a great cast (Kate Mulgrew in particular really knocks it out of the park as a conniving cat), and a very mature-in-a-good-way story that compliments the vaguely unsettling and menacing feeling of the train itself really well.

Without saying too much, I was surprised to learn that it’s already been confirmed for a second season, because the first seemed to wrap itself up quite nicely. I almost worry that additional seasons will ruin the atmosphere somehow; season 1 already answers all of the questions I’d care to know the answer to.

That’s a future problem, though. For now, go watch Infinity Train. It’s great!

guess we should go downvote… uh… the man show?

It’s silly and sweary, and I like it!

And I have to say, Timothy Dalton has aged well!

First, finished up Jessica Jones. I was very glad that they gave Luke Cage a small walk on, that they wrapped up the storyline of the show, that Kilgrave even got a small shout out at the end, and that Jessica ended up staying in NYC to keep on keeping on… oh, and Hogarth is going to die alone! Overall, a solid last season. I’m going to miss this show and Luke Cage very much. It’s a real shame that they both got the axe.

Second, Good Eats is back, and the first episode is up on Youtube:

Yay!

And last, why did I not know about this:

Cause that’s amazing!

I had no idea DC had its own streaming service. That looks interesting.

Agreed. And he was the best Rassilon of the modern Doctor Who era.

Have people seen this? Breaking Bad with yoga teachers instead of meth cooks?

It’s not the festival of mayhem that BB turned into but there is a body count. The characters are flawed and corrupt but their movement does help people. The show never settles for any easy answers.

I just binged seasons 1-3 of Preacher, and… wow, I’m not sure what to say except that whatever this show is, I like it. I haven’t read the comics and based on what I have read about it I was reluctant to start the show, because it seemed to be the sort of stuff that’s awesome when you’re a 14-year-old edgelord, but kind of cringy to anyone else.

But then I did give the TV show a try, and surprisingly, I loved it. It’s kind of like taking the cringy story you wrote as a 14-year-old edgelord, and having a laugh at it, but in an affectionate way. Also, I’m not sure what the story is technically about, but on the other hand I’m not sure supposed to really care as opposed to just being along for the ride wherever it takes me.

After having been sorely disappointed in the Good Omens show (one of my favorite books ever, I really really wanted to like the show but it was just so annoyingly dumbed down and in-your-face) this is exactly what I needed.
