Whatcha Watchin' (Season 2)

It’s a slow burn. I really like how the first season played out. My husband isn’t as enamored, but he does describe it as quirky. (I take that as positive.)

I realize it was written and produced long before cruise ships on this planet were having trouble docking… but so many of the jokes are a little too on the nose for this moment. I’ve been watching this in very short doses.

Just watched Onward with the kids since it was released early for Disney+.

Noticed a small but kinda significant moment in the story: a female character (a cyclops police officer) mentions that it’s hard being a new step-parent and she’s struggling to figure out how to help raise her girlfriend’s kid.

I could be wrong, but I think this may be the first time an animated Disney/Pixar feature film explicitly mentioned an LGBT family situation? Baby steps, but still.

I think some of the best revelations about Tiger King are the background details; like how Mr. Lewis’ former handyman’s backyard fence is on the verge of collapsing.

Someone from high school I reconnected with asked if Mr Robot was based on our high school so… I decided to rewatch Mr Robot to understand why everyone thinks I’m so elite. (It’s free on prime video, and no… I’m not from Jersey)

To be clear I mostly was playing Metal Gear Solid and shitposting (and yes, slapped around some bullies Ender Wiggin style earlier on) but hey, if people want to think I’m some kind of hacker god I’m not going to tell them it’s not true. Fear is an excellent motivator and I’m always willing to channel any chaotic good energy someone decides they’re picking up on.

(Also, you read this in Christian Slater’s voice didn’t you? That’s so very season 1.)

Sorry, we handed out all the bare minimum participation trophies after the supreme court ruled on Obergefell v. Hodges five years ago.

No one gets good boy points for doing what they should be doing. They just get to avoid continuing to be boycotted.

Meanwhile in episode seven Jimmy, IMHO, broke bad speaking to Howard, who’s been nothing but kind. He may regret that court hallway meltdown and the bowling balls if anything happens to Howard.

Who said anything about giving them a trophy? A minor and long overdue step forward is still a step forward. Anyway the boycotts seem to be coming from the other side:

He has been so cruel to howard, it was always chuck holding him back but not howard who was just doing chuck’s bidding. I think the moment you lose any sympathy for walt was a lot clearer than it has been with jimmy but this would be a legit moment, or gaslighting chuck that eventually led to his complete breakdown and suicide.

But his brother actually broke the law first. Remember the convo on extortion? You can’t step outside the law into the world of natural law then cry about gaslighting. Also I don’t think you can blame anyone for a suicide to do so empowers final acts of emotional blackmail.

That’s how I conduct my personal affairs personally, a sort of carrot and stick approach. We can stick to the law, or I can completely demolish you - no half measures

I guess that’s the difference between the two brothers - chuck is certainly cut from the same cloth as jimmy it’s just he truly believes he’s following the letter of the law while jimmy doesn’t and doesn’t care. Although i suppose he did care somewhat, chuck kept him in check for the most part but with him gone the shackles came off. Jimmy always sought the approval of chuck but chuck could not accept him as a bona fide lawyering type. I miss chuck though, when he was around i’d go back and forth between my sympathy for both and never quite falling in with either.

i actually think he knows he’s not following it. chuck is passive aggressive, and passive aggressive people HATE actually aggressive people, because no amount of wheedling or nudging will work - we’ll make you put the cards on the table (and the response to literally being told “do X or else” might be “oh I guess if we’re stepping outside the law I should beat you down then”

i think chuck’s “allergy” is an excuse to retreat from the world, and I don’t think Jimmy is the only person he wronged.

Maybe, yeah, but i’m thinking of his rant to jimmy about him not being a proper lawyer. Chuck most likely has had his ‘slipping jimmy’ moments but i still think that he thinks he’s upholding justice or whatever. This is why i’ve wavered in my support for these two and why the writing is so superb, there is no black and white.

Better call saul S05E08

:fearful:

That episode was so breaking bad, probably because it was directed by gilligan but it was the most BrBa it’s been in a while. I loved it though. There have been many turning points of jimmy becoming saul but i think the point of no return was reached here and it’s precisely the moment they ditch his suzuki esteem and it’s interesting how they did the same in the former show when walt gets rid of his pontiac aztec and buys a muscle car. No turning back now. Oh kim, why did you go there to speak to lalo… that’s her point of no return and i fear the outcome of it. Mike is absolutely correct because of course he is: she is in the game.

I think Missy Elliot would be a fantastic fairy godmother. I’d like her to be mine, as a matter of fact! But, I won’t look askance at Billy Porter being the fairy godmother, I just haven’t loved him for as long as I have loved Missy.

The post you’re replying to is from another universe ago! Those were the days! But yeah, I’d take either Missy Elliot or Billy Porter as the fairy godmother… I wanted Missy Elliot as cinderella and John Mulaney as prince charming, tho!

Finally got around to seeing the DS9 documentary, What We Left Behind… it was quite good.

Wait, what?! How on earth did I miss that? One quick google later - that’s fantastic!

Just watched the episode of “Tales From The Loop”. It has a beautiful aesthetic (which was to be expected given Simon Stålenhag’s inspiration) and a beguiling sense of Nordic magic and is beautifully written, acted and edited. My expectations for the rest of the season are pretty high. Loved it.

I’ve been watching/rewatching Ghibli films on Netflix as most of them are now listed. When marnie was there is a new one for me and it’s an absolute delight, it deals with grief and loneliness so if you’re not in the mood for that given our current situation then put it on the back burner. But it’s also hopeful and optimistic looking to the future with (I thought) a non-straight central character which surprised me.
