Whatcha Watchin'?

Oh yes, very intriguing and london looks fabulously squalid. Nobody quite does brooding menace like tom hardy and i believe he is meant to be a mix of 19th century fictional characters rolled into one. I’m getting a hint of the supernatural in there so i’m looking forward to see where it goes, particularly whatever heart of darkness shit he got up to in africa.

We’ve been watching in about hour-long sections and are about halfway through… I’m loving all the hand-waving and hurrahs and flag-waving. It feels so sincere! And the locks are pretty swell, too. Gorgeous scenery.

After we’re done with the canal ride, we’re gonna try the train ride. Then the knitting programs.

I really like the idea of having a summer and a winter job. That captain has the right idea.

Only 3 eps? Isn’t it usually 4?

I’d be disappointed if it goes there, I thought it was just crazy shit baggage in his head. Supernatural is too easy to write since you can make up the rules or have no rules at all. I think that’s why magic actually plays so little critical role in GoT, it would destroy our connection to the plots the way Polyjuice nearly destroys the credibility of Potter world. One of the reasons I loved Dollhouse was they followed their “magic” down that kind of rabbit hole and let it destroy the world.

Pretty sure it’s just 3 this season, last season was 4 but i think that’s the odd one out, all the others have been 3 per season.

Yeah, actually, maybe you’re right, depending on how they approach it. I was just intrigued by those very disturbing visions he was having.

Seasons 1-3 each had 3 eps.

Then, last year, they only released a single episode (the Victorian one: “The Abominable Bride”). It takes place between seasons 3 and 4.

This season, they’re returning to form with three episodes.

Ahh yes, i was confusing the online only mini episode that came before season 3.

Correct you are; turns out the streaming site I use included the Abominable Bride as part of S4, and that threw me off… combined with the fact that the series itself only airs every 2-3 years.

Ep 2 wasn’t bad at all; just a bit too rapidly paced, despite the obvious reason for it.

The Netflix version of “A Series Of Unfortunate Events” dropped. Not too familiar with the books, but loving the series so far.

I’ve been re-watching The West Wing. I re-watched the live debate episode from the final season after one of the presidential debates last year, and then felt inspired to re-watch the whole series.

Interestingly, Joshua Malina (who played Will Bailey on the show from season 4 onward) is currently co-hosting a podcast The West Wing Weekly, which is running episode-by-episode commentary; one episode per week. They’re currently partway into season two, and have had a bunch of other actors from the show as well as real-life politicians on to discuss the content of the episodes, and compare against real-world politics. Has been fascinating to listen to.

The two together have sort of been my detox from the current real-world political arena. Which seems to be a common comment among listeners to that podcast.

In the US, the entire run of The West Wing is available via Netflix. Out here in Australia, it’s on Stan. Presumably other countries have it available on one streaming service or another.

We’re two episodes in. I thought the beginning was a little draggy, but it’s picking up. Man, I love Joan Cusack

The new Maigret, AKA Blackadder goes to Paris. Holy hell it is good, the best of all the treatments I’ve seen (including French ones). I’m not surprised Atkinson is excellent in such a serious role, but it still took me by surprise (I hope that makes sense).

Binge-watching The IT Crowd, with one season to go. Hmmm…I think my personality resembles Richmond a bit, without the whole goth/Cradle of Filth part. Stick me in a dark room by myself, and yeah, I’m happy.
Anyway, I haven’t laughed out loud this much in a while. All the characters are great, but Moss is my favorite.

I haven’t seen Sneaky Pete yet, but thinking of using a VPN specifically for this. Looks like a great cast.

Edit: I have to add that I finally watched a game last Sunday in which the Steelers won. My personal curse is lifted! This has not happened in over two decades.

We watched the first episode (Unfortunate Events) with the kids last night. None of us were familiar with the series prior and we all enjoyed them. I liked the humor.

And having watched Sixteen Candles in a hotel room with the kids over xmas, it was fun to point out Joan Cusack to them

We watched the first one yesterday. I quite liked it. Never read the books, I vaguely remember watching the Carrey film, which, IIRC, fans of the books didn’t like?
