Me, too, but I must have blocked it out… whether or not it was loyal to the books, I remember not much caring for it. But then, I think half or so of the movies Jim Carrey has made can be thrown out…
Yes. It’s been years since I’ve read the book but it captured me in the same way the book did. I had to force myself to go to bed instead of staying up until 3AM to watch it all at once.
We finished it up last night… I have to say that Marc Warren was fantastic and creepy as hell!
It’s also weird how many actors I recognize in just about any British show who show up on others that I watch - Dr. Who, series like this, Black Mirror, and of course, EVERYONE in Game of thrones! Is that a sign I watch too many shows from the BBC? Paul Kaye is another one who keeps popping up in shows:
He was great as Vinculous… OH! Or Michael Smiley! He wasn’t in this, but he keeps showing up in stuff I like - Black Mirror, lots of the films of Ben Wheatley, Luther…
Just started Broadchurch now. I suspect that David Tennant will be as awesome as he was in Jessica Jones, cause in the first episode he’s great.
Yep, I love Broadchurch. I’m glad Tennant isn’t the protagonist though. It’s a nice change from the police procedural standard. I should pick up Gillian Anderson’s show again. One of these days.
Sherlock S04E03
Oh my good grief.
#SHHHHHH!!!
Was it bad?
It’s not even finished yet. I rarely comment during… shit, gotta go…
On the contrary. Think i preferred the middle episode after a scrappy start to the season but the stakes felt very real but also very final which i’m sad about. You know those little snippets of other cases you get a glimpse of? Yeah, those are the cases i always want to see but this season and this episode in particular very much about the holmes family. Turns out sherlock is the straight arrow in that family. Who knew?
edit: Reallyyy not sure about the “metaphor” plot device or eurus but i’ll need to read the tor.com writeup to help put words to my thoughts about that.
Well - I finally started Jessica Jones.
My favorite of the Netflix MCU stuff so far, TBH. I liked pretty much everything about it… but it’s a slow story to unfold, and lots of people didn’t make it through. I enjoyed the slow pace and thought it allowed them to really explore the central themes they are trying to address (trauma of sexual assault, friendship between women, revenge, etc).
Have you watched Daredevil or Luke Cage yet? I have not seen Daredevil, but Luke Cage is likewise awesome.
I just finished Luke Cage. Of the three, Daredevil is definitely the weakest. Charlie Cox is good, but the story is just meandering and annoying. Plus, way too many dull fights against extras. I see Iron Fist will be along in a couple of months.
I’d forgotten about Iron Fist… But the Defenders is also upcoming, too, this year, I think. It will be interesting to see Luke Cage and Jessica Jones on the same show again…
Have they decided to not include the Netflix shows in the Infinity War arc of the MCU? I have heard both yes and no on that.
Daredevil yes, I wanted to watch Jessica Jones before Luke Cage.
ETA - I also have the graphic novel Alias, but it has been awhile since I read it.
Is no one else watching Sweet/Vicious? Only current show holding our attention the last few weeks waiting for seasons to start and shows to drop.
Be careful out there.
Separately: so apparently Homeland is back? I hear. I haven’t seen any new ones yet.
Sherlock.
Hated it. Episode 2 was good, this was worse than that fucking wedding one.
Maybe I should watch Elementary instead.
If they are going to keep making these, I wish they’d stop writing stories about them getting back into the state to solve crimes, and instead, write some stories about them actually solving crimes. And enough with the fucking Moriarty shit. Or the stupid dead wife.
I think I’m finally at the point of accepting that this show is not for me, never will be, and won’t do what I want it to do. They probably won’t make any more now.
I’m going to watch the Jeremy Brett ones. And read some of the ACD stories I missed.
This looked like fanfic.
The series ending was written and aired over 50 years ago:
For me, Jeremy Brett was the definitive Sherlock Holmes, and always will be. The Cumberbatch version has done nothing to change my mind, even in the first season. I haven’t seen Episode 3 of this season yet, but Episode 2 was just barely acceptable. Episode 1 was awful, even if you don’t count killing off a likeable character, apparently just so she wouldn’t distract Watson from his focus on Holmes, and so we could watch great gobs of Sherlock’s guilt-ridden angst in the following episode.
