Perhaps a boring answer, my father loved the Beatles. He bought the Sgt Peppers LP, and it played over and over in the background of my childhood.
As a kid, Mr Kite was popular. Circuses and twisty minor keys. But nowadays A Day In The Life keeps returning to me.
My dad played Abbey Road. Side 2 is special to me.
In return, I gave my father a taste for Phillip Glass, and infected my kids with Daft Punk.
I apologise to both generations.
Thatās more ore less my point, but instead of arguing about a songās qualities the discussion immediately turns to nostalgia or references, as if these things are the only reasons people do listen to stuff.
Well that other dude died and he looks a lot like Steve White. He is even named Steve.
I havenāt heard a whole lot of Laibach - I should probably listen to some more. I love love love their NSK State. The whole idea of using socialist and fascist art as a way of free expression appeal to me. I will have to go see what they have been up to lately.
You monster.
I donāt know if itās entirely age relatedā¦ but that might be part of itā¦ I think itās still weighting current listening habits to try and say something about all of popular music, though.
I saw them play that live recently! Buwahahahaha!!!
Their most recent album is quite excellent, actuallyā¦
Glee! That explains it. Been trying to figure out how, out of all the awesome music in the 80s, that song suddenly came out of nowhere to become the most painfully overplayed song Iāve encountered in years.
I have my doubts that Glee would have remembered to do it if it hadnāt been used so prominently in the Sopranos finale.
I will try to check it out today. Thanks.
This is downright understated next to LAIF ES LAIF!
And interesting.
ETA: Undoubtedly takes the award for āBest Bromeliad in a Music Video.ā
Iāve also really been digging their cover of Love on the Beat originally by Serge Gainsbourg:
Iām not sure Iāve heard them sing in French beforeā¦
Does anyone happen to know if itās Herb Alpert backing Neil Diamond in this track? (Solitary Man)
I really want it to be Alpert.

Donāt Stop Believinā has been a drunken karaoke staple since well before Glee ever existed, at least in the U.S. Itās also popular in San Francisco as an unofficial theme song for the Giants, but I think that started in the 2010 playoffs, the same year as Gleeās first season. Steve Perry has been known to lead the bleachers in a sing-along.
Ahh. I think I took this seriously a few decades ago.
