Joni’s got that cigarette voice happening here. What a performer.

Probably my favourite opening verse of all time.

It’s a lovely song, and a lovely album, but for me her very best is “All I Want”

(lyrics in video description). It’s “only” been covered 151 times, so half as much as “A Case of You”. Rhymes as intricate as Sondheim but written with the simplest words so as to give the feeling of someone speaking extemporaneously, and about the sweetest feelings.

I want to have fun, I want to shine like the sun
I want to be the one that you want to see
I want to knit you a sweater
Want to write you a love letter
I want to make you feel better
I want to make you feel free

I find myself singing “I wish I had a river I could skate away on” during dark times in my life.

These lists of “greatest albums of all time” are always kind of fun and always kind of annoying. A few years from now they’ll do the list again and “Blue” won’t even be on it.

I like “Car On A Hill” from Court & Spark, some sexy sax there - but then, I like 'em all.

She is a goddess. That is all.
