Will Trump ever leave the White House?

Thing is, which is what’s suuuuuper annoying, is that T is right that much of the media are fake and corrupt. But it’s not the ones he means. It’s the vast right wing hate machine. The left has its share of garbage. It pales in comparison to the giant right wing media garbage heap overshadowing it.

Way to broadcast false equivalency.

If you bothered to read the rest of the thread here you might have noticed your specific complaint has already been responded to.

Perhaps try addressing people’s concerns. Rather than just relaxing that trump will do something normal that all presidents do.

This isn’t a crazy conspiracy because trump himself has said he won’t respect the outcome of an election going against him, that he wants to be president for life, and that he’d start a civil war if forced out.

This isn’t wild speculation. This what the guy is saying. No special inferences or interpretations are necessary. You’d be stupid to just laugh it off.

Fortunately, it’s not up to him

Someday an American person analogous to Vladimir Putin or Hugo Chavez might percolate up from the depths of the intelligence community or the military and inspire the sort of personal loyalty from those quarters that would be necessary for a coup

Trump is not that guy

Thanks for the intel. The silence is a good sign, given the penchant for caged birds to sing.

Paradoxically, I take great hope from your description of the situation.

I mean. He tweeted 57 times the day the whistleblower complaint was released.

The trend of tweets per week has been growing since inauguration. Several times a week now he tweets the words, “PRESIDENTIAL HARRASSMENT!”.

He is worried. If the noose isn’t tightening, it at least feels that way to him.

He can twitter all day long, just no one else has to see it.

Serious question: what can Trump get up to after losing the election until inauguration? Almost 10 weeks to mess around.

Pre-2016 me just figured there are “checks and balances” to prevent the outgoing POTUS from doing any damage. But lately I’m beginning to suspect it’s more of a “Harrumph! Gentlemen don’t need rules against such underhandedness” sort of thing.

the main thing is war. which, as shrub showed, makes americans want to keep the status quo… even if the status quo isn’t all that great

this ^, though…

the republicans have already proven willing to gerrymander, purge voter roles, install hackable voting machines, lobby against voting paper trails, take money from with corporate and foreign agencies, collaborate with foreign governments…

if 45 is still their man in the months before the election – they will try to swing the election. that’s where their juice is.

Precisely the stuff he’s up to now.

But why does anyone expect all those other folks will suddenly not get up to what they’re up to now? With the lawsuits and the protests and the not agreeing with Trump. And if Trump were to escalate to coup territory why assume those same people won’t fight it? That the military folks that vocally oppose the guy won’t do their jobs? That states with militaries of their own will simply stand by and be bowled over?

Trump can be as crazy balls as he wants, he only gets away with it if the rest of us shrug and shout “oh no I guess he’s forever now”. Checks and balances are one thing, but if it comes down to it some one can put a bullet in the guy.

Agreed. This is exactly what happened to Andrew Johnson post-impeachment: they ignored him. Every order, every proposal, every speech, the rest of the government just ignored him like he wasn’t there.

On the other hand, with enough money, you can keep anybody alive in a technical sense, for decades beyond their baseline life span.

There won’t be a huge civil war. There will be a lot of dumbasses making a lot of noise about opposing the “illegitimate Democrat traitor govt” and not really doing anything about it. There will be a much smaller number of worse dumbasses actually doing something, and getting themselves and some innocent people hurt or killed. But there will not be a civil war.

If we are going to be better than the nutbags, let’s be accurate. Trump did not say this. Facts still matter, so let’s not be fast and loose with them. He quoted a pastor:

“…if the Democrats are successful in removing the President from office (which they will never be), it will cause a Civil War like fracture in this Nation from which our Country will never heal.” Pastor Robert Jeffress, @FoxNews

And please don’t argue something like “this is just as good as saying HE will START a civil war” because that sort of linguistic twist is a tool of Fox News.

Now, that said, we must realize that there ARE conservative nut jobs who will use this tweet as support for their wet dream of finally…finally…using their massive stockpiles of assault rifles to go on a killing spree:

https://twitter.com/oathkeepers/status/1178549790847590400?s=21

That tweet from “The Oath Keepers” is one of many responding to Trump’s quote alluding to a “civil war like fracture” and escalating it to a belief that an actual war may happen.

According to the Oath Keepers’s webpage, the organization is “a non-partisan association of current and formerly serving military, police, and first responders, who pledge to fulfill the oath all military and police take to ‘defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic,’” while declaring that they “will not obey unconstitutional orders.” The Anti-Defamation League, by contrast, describes the group as “an anti-government right-wing fringe organization” whose members have appeared “as self-appointed armed guards” at various places around the country, in defiance of what they deem to be unconstitutional government action. Last month, the group sought “security volunteers” from their membership and “other capable patriots” to escort Trump supporters attending a New Mexico rally “to protect them from potential leftist violence.” And last year, the Oath Keepers announced its “Spartan Training Group program,” with the goal of “form[ing] training groups in as many states as possible” to create “a pool of trained, organized volunteers who will be able to serve as the local militia under the command of a patriotic governor loyal to the Constitution, or if called upon by President Trump to serve the nation”
