I am at the end of my career (retiring soon I hope), but I still have to look myself in the mirror everyday and feel like I stood on the right side of morality and ethos.
I will not drink the Kool-aid.
If nothing else, the Trump admin has served as a pretty efficient filtering tool. Anyone with a shred of care for reputation, empathy, or even a totally self-interested value for their own epitaph has washed out pretty quickly. Even those who made the sacrifice to stay to “contain” the president. The dregs that are left? hoo-boy. I guess it’s the slimmest of silvery linings that people like Giuliani - who stumbled ass-backwards into global respect in the first place - don’t get to die with that unearned reputation intact.
Ditto…well my Dad at least…my Mom is an evangelical dabbler who only at this late stage, when pressed, has become uncomfortable with the political machinations of the Christian right. My Dad was a liberal in the 60’s and 70’s, but for reasons never elucidated to me became an ardent Reagan supporter, a George W./Iraq War cheerleader, and now, slipping into the mental minefield of dementia, makes justifications for Trump. His take on climate change: “There’s nothing we can do about it anyway…” He has four grandchildren.
I would agree that applies to Trump, who has no scruples nor ideology, save furthering his own deeply fragile psyche. Could there possibly be a more textbook case of malignant narcissism? As for McConnell, Pence etc. there is an ideology there however; white Christian nationalism. They are at heart authoritarians, who only pay lip service to democratic ideals when it serves their interest. These people truly believe they are on a mission from God to save America from the bogeymen of socialism, multiculturalism, egalitarianism and pluralism. That is far more dangerous than straight up greed.
No, their ideology is pure straight-up greed for wealth and power. They only use white Christian nationalism because it’s the best tool for getting what they want.
They are not mutually exclusive that’s for sure. I know cynicism is all the rage these days but I actually think very few people are motivated by pure greed. Power is another story. We fail to recognize the existential threat these people truly pose if we don’t come to terms with the motivating factors that drive them and their supporters. I don’t think Hitler or Mussolini were motivated by greed at all for instance.
“ Everyone dies and I am not, you know, I don’t believe in the Homeric idea that you know, immortality comes by, you know, having odes sung about you over the centuries, you know?"
Valar morghulis? But that neglects the balancing side of the phrase. Where’s this guy’s valar dohaeris? What about serving, Bill?
greed (n) - intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or food.
i don’t think these words mean what you think they mean
In this interview, Barr had that same soft voice Dick Cheney used. That same soft voice they seem to train Catholic priests with. Since at least the Iraq War when Cheney used that calm tone to justify a needless war and torture, I get the willies when I hear it. For me, it’s a signifier of evil and a tell that something is desperately wrong with the person using it, trying to convince you that up is down, right is wrong, and trusting the sociopath before you is the only option.
I think most people associate the word with money. “Words” plural? Spelling error on your part or passive-aggressive?
pedantic (adj.) - excessively concerned with minor details or rules; overscrupulous.
patronizing (adj.) - apparently kind or helpful but betraying a feeling of superiority; condescending.
i didn’t mean to be kind or helpful. i was pointing out you were wrong.
“Sure it’s murder but they’d die sooner or later anyway, what’s the big deal” is not a good philosophy for a law man.

I thought Xianity promised Eternal Life. No death. Barr must be an atheist.
they should read this little story from the nearby future, in particular the last three paragraphs:
good faithful christians, arent they?
Very true, but keep in mind, Barr wrote a 19 page explanation of why he should be AG. Whitaker wasn’t going to get the job & Trump needed someone. Barr came with a big red bow on top. To mix metaphors, he then dove into the pool of horrid political GOP who are all about their side.
