This seems to be a regular occurrence in Hamburg, NY:
Can the houses be saved? It looks like their yards are full of frozen water, but I’d be interested to see if any had time to penetrate the house before it froze. Remediation could include hacking it all up and tossing it back over the breakwater before it melts. It’d probably ruin the house finishes, though.
Yup, when the storm pushes just right over the lake with enough wind you get the same sort of storm surge you would see in hurricane conditions. Mix that with freezing temps and this is the result.
We get that here in Michigan, it’s not a surge as in water rising, it’s a constant mist blowing off the lake that creates the ice sculptures.
Depending which direction the wind blows my side of the lake can go up or down by a foot or so.
