Woman's $400k wedding ring found in 8 tons of garbage

Fire the jeweller and get a machinist/metallurgist instead? :stuck_out_tongue:

One caveat with the exotic metals… Make sure that you’re never in a situation where the ring needs to be cut off of your finger.

That’s one advantage to a memory alloy. With the right alloy, it’s extremely strong and tough, but can be tuned to deform at low room temperatures or slightly below. So you could make a ring that you could get off by cooling it down a bit and then get it back to it’s shape when the swelling from the car door goes down

Seriously, how is this not a thing?

My ring is just silver, but it is anyway a coiled snake that is not closed. I have thin fingers with larger knuckles so a conventional one would either not get over or rattle a bit.

I don’t know what any of those things are, but that comment is nonetheless hilarious.

And not because stone setting and lapidary is a work of art or anything.

Heard of someone who tossed (“recycled”) a Macbook Air wrapped in newspaper. I think he was a guest on Macbreak weekly or something.

I’ve used an iPhone as a bookmark. (I didn’t lose it, but when surrounded by a lot of books, there’s still a possibility it can get lost or tossed in a careless moment.)

My husband and I have this black hole where a pair of football tickets and our plane tickets to Cozumel have disappeared. We never wrapped them in tissue, but we think the newspapers played a part in the game tickets.

He was a really sweet guy. They did a great photo essay on him in the Washington Post. I was very sorry to hear about how he died, though not surprised as he had spoken often about carrying a gun but I knew he had no training with it.
