Can you give a little background here? It seems like this is both about voting rights for the Sami people as well as land use rights ON Sami land? I’m afraid I don’t know much about the history here, or about the implications of this proposal?

Yes, I agree, it’s a confusing issue- there seems to be an element of “restricting who can be considered Sami” to it as well, which seems off on the face of it.

I am shit writer so here are some links hope they help:

The Sámi Parliamentary Council has also noticed misinformation in Finland about the electoral role, falsely claiming that the amended criteria in the new act would make the criteria much stricter on the Finnish side than the Swedish and Norwegian sides.

– The fact is that the amended criteria would be similar to the criteria on the Norwegian side and in full compliance with the criteria in the Nordic Sami Convention, in which, at this point, all the parties (Sweden, Finland, Norway, and the three Sámi Parliaments) have agreed on, the Council notes.

The two-party system which has dominated since the end of military rule in 1999 is under threat.

Thanks BBC for making additional choices sound like a bad thing

I’m bit jealous about e-voting too. Finland has an election in a month we only get 6 days of early voting and the nearest location to me is almost 300meters away. If I wait until the election day I have to travel over 1km and wait minutes in line on a sunday…

Weirdly I have only been sent a electronic notice that I can vote. I don’t know if they do letters to or If the electronic thing is enough now. More fucking work I have to sign in to the website to check. Why is voting so fucking hard work?

It’s like doing my taxes it takes minutes of my life.
