Mark is joined by award-winning journalist Ramita Navai for a special extended interview about the Middle East. From Israel’s war crimes in Gaza, to life under the Taliban, and the ‘Women, Life, Freedom’ movement in Iran.

Informed, entertaining and shocking, subjects range from the Iranian rapper Toomaj Salehi, currently sentenced to death by the regime – to the hackers who filmed a pro-Iranian regime journalist masturbating to porn in his office.

As a British-Iranian journalist, Ramita has won an Emmy and other awards for documentaries such as Afghanistan Undercover, ISIS and the Battle for Iraq, Undercover Syria, and Breaking Into Israel.

If you want to understand What The F*** Is Going On in the Middle East, this is the episode for you.

I never particularly saw von der Leyen as in any way centrist. She’s right. Just right.

People often vote for different parties in their local versus European elections as, for example, your “centre right” party might be aligned with the far right in Europe to distinguish themselves from another local “centre right” party.

Or simply because they do different things there. So for example environmental policy or trade deals in Europe might be more important to you than they are in local elections. So our local Greens are against CETA etc. but the party is in a government that supports it so I might vote Greens in Europe but I wouldn’t locally.

“ I wouldn’t say it’s a disaster - because it is the maturity of democracy, we have seen it elsewhere in the world. After 25 years of being a leading party, the decline begins”

“It will remain a shock for a period until we sit, we engage and discuss… and we’ll accept, obviously, the results.”

Congratulations South Africa. Well done ANC.
