Wouldn't it be cool if Dune was an animated series?

Not in the least. Just the continued disappointment of the human race in general.

And the mini-series won several Emmys.

Nope, it was the Hugo awards of 15 years ago, which I think you’ll agree, is not the Hugo awards of today.

Just watched this last week. I like Jodorowsky in a sick fascination kind of way, and generally think that the more interpretations, the better chance we have for something good, but… No. Just No.

I love the spacecraft in Babylon 5 for this reason.

You just described two teenagers who saw the film on video: one who had read the book, and the other, myself, had not. Both found it enjoyable enough.

The film has flaws, I’ll admit. I tend to gloss over the issues others see, though (like the heart plugs, which amplify the decadence of the Haarkonens, or the weirding modules, because mysticism just bugs me), and have more issues with other things—like the designs of the Saudakar or the necessity of establishing Feyd as a gladiator before the knife fight—oh, and the battle-go-round, but really, you are rarely going to get better than most of that casting with that Emperor’s throne room, that 3rd stage Navigator, the palace on Caladan, the Heighliners and too many other things for me to go into and nerd out over.

The film is a virtuoso of VFX, too, making use of forced perspective with the models in camera and even a little early CG.
