Again, primarily because I don’t think there is any evidence for Trump being Blackmailed here.
As for not focusing on that one meeting… I’d suggest because there are probably many other things to focus on with regards to his presidency that had much deeper impacts on people’s lives. It’s hard to really dig down into all the many things that, by any other president, would be not only scandals, but probably result in removal from office. There is so much to point to, that it’s hard to focus on one thing. In that light, it really does seem like smaller potatoes, although arguable one of the executive branches most critical function is control of foreign policy. But most people tend to be focused on the things that hurt them directly or got loved ones killed…
You’re probably right that people didn’t fixate on it because it seemed like something presidents do: meet with foreign leaders. But the way it went down seems highly suspect to me. Trump’s attacks on NATO didn’t come from some deep ideology of his. Remember also that Trump is nothing if not transactional. Maybe it isn’t blackmail, but it sure looks at the very least like quid pro quo might have been happening – and not for the benefit of the U.S., but for the benefit of Donald Trump. Remember how weak and pathetic Trump looked at that post-meeting presser he did with Putin? It was embarrassing. It’s also not the only private meeting the two have had. I concede that I’m in the minority on feeling this should be a much bigger deal than it is to the media and to the American public.
“I was blackmailed” is also an out. Trump is, and always has been, an evil scumbag all under his own agency. He does not need an outside force to convince him to be one.
Poor Trump just wants what’s best for everyone, but Xilvilaz the Thirsthungry will unmake all living things unless he acts exactly like a cruel, selfish bigot would every single moment of his life.
