Wow, that is interesting - never come across that before. I see in der Pampas all the time. But yeah - classic Denglish, to take a word like ‘Outback’ that has a fairly specific meaning, and apply it slightly but consistently wrongly/differently.

Last year there were over 1000 crimes recorded.
