Your dog may eat you when you die

My dog Kia (an angel in a dog suit as far as I’m concerned) was one of two dogs whose owner died, and they weren’t found for four days. I didn’t ask any questions, but the family didn’t, or couldn’t take at least Kia (I don’t know what happened to the other dog), but were very happy that Kia went to a good home.

I’m fine with my pets noshing on me after I’m gone.

The dogs obviously had a choice of food, both kibble and slightly ripened steak. I wonder, though, where they were able to get water. Were they big dogs and just drank out of the toilet? How long would that last?

Ever hear of long pig?

Did you check Kia’s poop for the first few days?

My rabbits do this to me, too. Especially if I fall asleep on the floor.

In this case, they really are worried I might have shuffled this mortal coil. Good bunnies. OW!

She was in foster care for six weeks, before she came to me, so that would have been someone else’s problem!

I recently started feeding my dogs “fresh” food instead of dry kibble (I put fresh in quotes because I buy it, a months worth is delivered at a time, and I freeze it), and their water consumption has dropped dramatically. Fresh raw meat would have even more water in it. They would probably get enough water from the body, as long as the house wasn’t super hot.

You beat me to it!

Honestly, I’d see my dog eating me postumously as a really good sign; since it would imply that our respective lifespans lined up such that I don’t have to deal with losing my dog.

My last dog died years ago and I still can’t face the prospect of doing that again.

Water is a good point, there may have been kibble, but did the dogs have a way to stay hydrated if they had eaten dry food?

My cat knows how to turn on the sink and drink from the faucet. My dog can’t reach it.

If you wanted some, you should’ve gotten here sooner.

I’m fine with that as long as someone takes them walkies to my favourite tree.
