Today I get the feeling more will find out.
RIP
Well, today I learned I need more PostModern Jukebox in my life, that was beautiful.
Also, @anon65652885 - I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much joy in a confined space as PMJ’s “Umbrella”.
Well, poo.
This is how I found out.
That makes me so happy.
The Electric Hellfire Club also did a version…
And Psychic TV did a version of Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun:
Keep remembering things as I listen to my various playlists.
This is one where I will always prefer the original (Kate Bush) but Maxwell did a fabulous job:
Original:
I’ve been listening to an old playlist I made my daughter during the last few times I’ve been in the car, and it’s amazing how many covers there are in the list!
Dolly & Ladysmith Black Mambazo:
Playing for Change (various artists, including Yusuf):
Original (Cat Stevens/Yusuf):
Sorry, my personal preference will always be:
(Fun fact; this song from Porgy & Bess has been covered numerous times since the 1920’s.)
I knew I’d get great suggestions if I said that!
Summertime is just one of those songs that seems to bring out the best in so many good singers.
I’ve seen Porgy & Bess live at two major metropolitan opera houses, which has its pros & cons (I’ve seen it done with actual opera singers and separately with top Broadway stars in a operatic construct), but certain songs seem to transcend the show they’re from, and this is definitely one of them.
That’s feckin hilarious.
People used to pay good money for this kind of drunken outtake.
(I don’t want to cast aspersions - I just hope they were drunk when they recorded this)
