… is one in 50 too many, or too few?
I’m not sure what point is being made here
I’m surprised so many Republicans think that Biden dropping out was a blunder, considering how it’s making Trump flail and panic while his poll numbers drop. Are they really chortling in smug confidence at Biden’s terrible mistake, or is it just a knee-jerk “Anything Biden does MUST be wrong” reaction?
Maybe they should pay attention to how enthusiasm has shifted since he did and how Trump is pretty much flailing since they changed horses in mid-stream?
I was very skeptical that this would work out, but it certainly seems like it is. If Harris can stir more enthusiasm among democratic leaning independents, get a massive wave of new voters signing up, and can walk that line between owning the Biden administrations wins while seeming like an outsider, she has a good chance of wrapping this thing up.
I am unhappy that Biden was bullied into dropping out. He didn’t deserve that. All that being said, the way things have gone since he did drop out have been nothing short of amazing.
Was it the right choice? Only time will tell. My knee-jerk reaction is that yes, it was the right choice, but it was pretty damn shameful how we got there.
Count me thinking the same thing. I wasn’t opposed to Biden dropping out as much as I was opposed to public (and I’m sure a lot of private) bullying by the media and Democratic “allies.” Where were they in 2022? Biden has one shitty debate and they lost their collective shit.
But do I think Biden made a mistake? No.

are the republicans answering as in “the wrong thing for what they wanted to happen” or what exactly?
Honestly I wasn’t sure if it was the right thing before hand, afterwards I have no doubts that it was absolutely the right move.
Why do we care about what Republicans think about Democratic anything?
Unless they say that they’ll support the Democratic ticket… otherwise… who cares!
Sure, the moment they stop being Republicans they might be worth some attention. But this idea that everyone except the far right should be obsessed with the opinions of the people who hate them is…well, it seems very stupid?
I’m trying to think how to state the question better, and flailing. That said, I really have no idea what the 1 in 5 Republicans mean by “made the wrong decision”. What do they think would have been better had he not? Other than the chances of ■■■■■ making it back into the White House, obviously.
there were no “horses” changed! Madame Vice President has always been on the ticket! that President Biden stepped aside, did not really change the ticket.
it did, however - as you and others have pointed out - change the momentum behind the ticket!
Maybe even, i don’t know, weird?
Hmmm… maybe… I think that’s debatable… but we agree on the momentum!
It is an interestingly drastic difference, and although I know that nothing really matters but beating Tromp and the couch-humping shillbilly, I am led to wonder what’s causing it.
I suppose a lot of Republican voters believe Tromp’s lies about Biden being forced out in a coup, so they think Biden should’ve held firm and stayed in the race? Of course, like their master, they likely wish that he were running against Biden instead of Harris.
" Of course, like their master, they likely wish that he were running against Biden instead of Harris. "
I think it’s partly sour grapes about that, but also they share Hair Fuhrer’s ideology that seizing power for yourself is good, and anyone who sacrifices themselves or relinquishes power for the greater good has made a mistake.
I think they really felt Trump had a proper chance against Biden, but less of a chance against Harris. With Biden, they were able to successfully push the “he’s too old” angle (despite their guy being almost as old) and now they mostly have stuff that’s either racist or sexist, and mostly pretty damn weak anyway.
I disagree that we’ll ever know for certain if it was “the right choice” no matter if she wins or loses. If she wins that won’t prove that Biden couldn’t have also won. And if she loses that doesn’t mean that Biden wouldn’t have also lost, but perhaps by a larger margin and with more congressional seats flipping too. The situation is what it is and we’ll never know for sure how a counterfactual situation would have ended up. Best to keep eyes forward and make the most out of the opportunities we’ve been presented with.
