The combination of sheer ignorance of chemistry and limited access to reagents definitely doesn’t help the quality of street drugs; but there are the occasional disconcerting examples of people with knowledge and better-than-average access getting bitten as well.

Normally, discovering a valuable tool for Parkinson’s disease research while still a chem grad student would be admirable; but Barry Kidston would probably have preferred not to do so the hard way.

Even professionals make mistakes, of course; but I’m always a bit amazed at people’s willingness to ingest or inject amateur synthesis attempts.

Nah, No.2 brown heroin needs an acid to make it water soluble cos it’s the freebase. Vinegar/lemon juice will do at a pinch, but it can do some nasty shit to you (also, you can taste it in the back of your throat when you inject). Citric or ascorbic acid is better.

There is nothing that’s too awful to not be joked about. Laughter is our defense, sometimes the only defense, against insanities of the world. When you live in the middle of tragicomedy, laugh; it’s often all you can do about it.
