13-year-old explains 'southern pride' to idiot racists

What about those parts of the USA that were once a French colony, should they fly the pre-revolutionary Drapeau blanc?
And while we’re at it, the Russian flag in Alaska?

Fact: all of those are named Günther.

If kneeling during the anthem, is "disrespecting the [Union] flag”, what the heck is flying the battle flag of the defeated Confederacy, to say nothing of the men who served to tear it down?

I’m sure the irony is lost on those people.

I have a 69 VW Beetle. Its name is Otto. (I love it!)

In my experience with southerners this is absolutely true. Between the states rights horse shit and the fact they’re unaware they have a KKK flag from the 1950s it seems they’ve been sold a very persistent lie.

Reminded me of a time at was at McDonald’s (yes i know i know, but I’m young let me make my mistakes hehe) and some old guy was going on about how “liberals are still crying about [the election results]” and i just so happened to have my England football crest shirt on that day, i really wish i knew what his thoughts were when he saw it on me lol

Oh and i do believe there’s a few statues of Arnold up north in New England, and there’s a plack to him at West Point, but the student body have scratched his name off it so there’s that

They sound like management too if they are taking up the HC spots with such disregard

You’d think, but I have met plenty of engineers more douchey than any boss I have had.

Last year I was on a conference call with a guy who made a point to say, “oh yeah, I am working from home because my Maserati is in the shop”. So I said sarcastically, " Oh yeah, mine too", thinking I was playing along. Had a call immediately after with my boss. “Hey Regular, I am just letting you know–Bill actually drives a Maserati”.

As far as Maseratis go, it was entry level. I will be damned how you can get a crazy high paying gig as an architect without knowing how to code, though.

I am just happy some other company is paying him now.

It is, sadly, a very cool-looking flag. Kinda like how the Nazis hands-down had the best uniforms.

The “3/5 of a person” thing is horrible, of course. But I think it’s also misconstrued. It wasn’t the bad guys who didn’t want slaves to count as fully human (because they were seen as subhuman) and the good/better guys who wanted them to count as full people, and so they settled on 3/5 as a compromise. It was the other way around: The bad guys wanted slaves to count as full people, so they (the southern states) would have more congressional representation. It was never about granting or not granting any rights to slaves. It was only about counting heads. The “good” guys didn’t want the slaves to count (toward calculating the southern states’ populations) and the bad guys did want them to count. And then they settled on the 3/5 compromise, which, yes, is disgusting.

Well the die hard Loyalists mostly lit out for Canada, voluntarily or otherwise, so that question hardly arises. I suppose that expelling known or suspected secessonists after the ACW (to where though? Brazil?) would have been a permanent solution …

Googling for statues , turned up Edward Corrnwallis in Halifax (not that Cornwallis, an earlier Cornwallis) , complete with agitation to have him removed by Mi’maq activists. Similar in some ways to the Confederate generals thing, erected in the early 20th century as a statement of early 20th century politics, now facing 21st century pushback.
