13-year-old explains 'southern pride' to idiot racists

Not long before there’s a ‘girl’ General Lee.

…to remind our moronic Brexiters that we were once part of a kingdom that was also based in Germany.

alternately, it’s a statement about the oversimplified, simplified for comprehension through objective demonstation?

Maybe throw in some statues of William the Bastard to remind them of the time when most of England was ruled by a French duke of Scandinavian origin.

I once asked someone why they were parked in a handicapped spot, and their answer was to state disbelief and challenge my right to ask them that.

There was no handicap, she was using someone else’s placard.

So I parked 3 inches from her driver door and walked away.

I occasionally tell people like that where my IRL surname comes from, and ask if they want me to go back to Denmark.

If you know any girls named “Corvette” or “Mustang” you must inhabit rather different circles from mine.

LOL good point. I guess that didn’t click with me.

No no - not the car model, the name. i.e. my parents old car was Rosey.

I have an uncle who used to be a fan of the show when it aired (I was a grade schooler at the time). Never understood it.

It all made perfect sense when he came out years later.

And your office cat probably has the decency to bury their shit instead of gilding it and holding pressers about how magnificent it is!

I see what you are trying to do. But no. It isn’t. It has nothing to do with that. It’s reductionist to make that joke. BLM and all the stuff of late has not arisen out of any reaction to or response to the confederate flag, specifically. The problem is much larger and not symbolized by a flag. To reduce it to symbolism is to miss it entirely. So, I can’t sign on to what you wrote.

My old office building used to have both handicapped spots taken up every day: One with an AMG trim Mercedes (well into the 100k+ price range), and a top of the line Nissan GT-R (base price $96k for that year).

I asked around. Folks that knew them assured me that they were definitely not handicapped in any way. I gotta wonder how they got the placards? Maybe a handicapped spouse?

i’m sure they’re all totally unrelated, and i’ve been a naughty intellectual.

Sigh.

“…[E]xplain what the flag meant to them.”

As opposed to them learning what the flag means to other people. And then maybe changing their behavior because of how it affects other people.

It’s a human thing I guess. But it makes me grind my teeth how often an individual thinks everyone else should change their reactions because of the individual’s intentions.

intent > impact, is more or less narcissism
impact > intent, is more or less pluralism

No, not unrelated. Nor “about.” Related/unrelated was not the main point. The main idea is that none of any of this is about a flag, but about much deeper issues that have plagued us for centuries. Reducing it to being about a flag, even though we all know a flag is just a symbol, is too shorthand. It’s so much bigger, so I’m merely suggesting we respect it as such.

That’s when you call them a lying shitheel, and tell them to stay away from you because their weak grasp of reality is a tangible threat.
