He’s had an estimated wealth that large, but that was always based on the value of his ‘brand’ and his company holdings - both of which have understandably tanked in the last couple of decades - but that too is part of the illusion that he’s successful. His personal wealth would never have been that great or else he would let rich lists use that instead, but he has consistently held onto at least what regular people without multimillion inheritances would think of as a fortune.
You should check out Nancy Maclean’s book on the 2nd KKK. It’s set in Athens, GA, but her findings could be extrapolated out to the rest of the US. Despite the veneer of respectability, she finds, they were still deeply racist and violent, often aimed at their own membership, so they could keep order within their communities:
