2020 Election Thread (formerly: 2020 Presidential Candidates Thread) (Part 1)

Have we reached the point yet we’re we get to assume that this is malice without being gaslit as crazy conspiracy theorists by the media?

We could just assume it’s more tech related incompetence and grifting.

Also - trash can the caucuses. They make no sense in the current times or with populations over 10,000.

Edit:

None of the stories identify which companies are developing this app that’s not an app. This needs to be disclosed.

as terrible as the Iowa caucuses were, you gotta admit its fortunate that there was a paper trail to recount when the reporting app and phone numbers failed. imagine all that going down and we just had to trust that the caucus leaders reported accurately. i sure hope this ipad thing has a paper backup of some sort…

Everything that involves voting needs a paper trail.

There was really nothing fortunate about Iowa. It was a disaster at the very worst time to have a disaster.

The first should be last.

If Sanders or Warren isn’t the nominee and these Dem establishment clowns continue calling the shots into the general election, we’re looking at a second term for Biff.

I will work hard and give as much money as I can for any Dem nominee.

Even if they put Maryanne Williamson up. It’s about survival- we need to work harder come the General. I’ll save my rage for then. And PA is a great state to put my money and efforts towards the effort- I’ll give money towards local orgs doing that work where I know the players.

Edit:
If Williamson or even Mayo gets the nod - this is Kathy:

The person who made this pays for sex? Not surprised.

I suspect that the guy who posted it made it to chum users over to his “influencer” site.

there was no paper trail in previous caucuses.

They sucked too.

We don’t need to spend five months covering what one state wants - and three hours on the others. Especially one that is so unrepresentative.

I’ll vote for whomever the Dem nominee is, but if it’s not one of the two progressives I fully expect the Dem establishment to bungle things (and if it is one of them, I can see the DNC doing a fair bit of undermining).

my point is not that the iowa caucuses were good. my point is that they showed that nevada better have paper backups because relying on digital technology is dangerous.

Or just techno-optimism. We see this all the time in other contexts, where people go “wouldn’t it be great if we had a tech fix for this, then everything will be wonderful and we’ll be living in our cool sci-fi future”. It’s a prevalent attitude. “I love my phone, I love my apps, it’d be great if we had an app for this.” New people are born every day, then they grow up into positions of authority without having yet felt the wrench of hard realities.

The evidence from Iowa was that consultant grifting was going on.

I think pony soldier is slang for a Canadian Mountie?

Or that 1952 called and she looked like Tyrone Power.

He’s always been like that. He blew up at questions all the time during his run in '88. It’s part of why Obama took him on as VP running mate.

Biden’s not my choice for the nomination, but it would be fun to watch him in a debate with Trump.
