once upon a time, a quarter of buttigieg’s supporters had warren as their second choice. if he’s dropping out, she should definitely stay in to try to pick those voters up.

even if she doesn’t emerge at the top – she can potentially use her delegates to swing things sander’s way down the line.

The point is, even if she believed the story, it wasn’t true. Unfortunately, her apology is ringing in a lot of ears like a note saying “I’m sorry I sideswiped your car,” but not bothering to leave insurance information. Slightly better than a non-pology, but not really addressing the damage. And in her case, the story wasn’t just a romantic exoticism, her family literally rewrote what side certain people were on.

Was it her personal fault? No. But with any type of racism, not reckoning with the damage our ancestors did is ignoring the problem. As has been pointed out on other issues “X apologized. People need to forgive them” is damaging rhetoric. No one is entitled to forgiveness. No one is obliged to forgive, especially when the offending party has done none of the work of paying amends.

I like Warren, insomuch as I get an opinion, but ignoring the damage done to First Nations, Indigenous and Aboriginal people or demanding they settle for something less than the reasonable thing they asked for… let’s just say there are a lot better ways to act like Canada.

(responding to the twitter thread)

In roughly a week’s time, Warren released a 9,000-word plan on tribal rights that was twice the size of any other plan from her campaign, took down a poorly received video of her family’s ancestral history, and offered her most high-profile apology to date at the first-ever Native American-centered presidential forum.

“Now, before I go any further in this, I want to say this: Like anyone who’s been honest with themselves, I know that I have made mistakes,” Warren said at the outset of her appearance last week. “I am sorry for harm I have caused. I have listened, and I have learned a lot. And I am grateful for the many conversations that we’ve had together.”

Warren has privately apologized to Cherokee leaders, met with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and been advised by Native American friends and colleagues, such as Rep. Deb Haaland, one of the first two Native American women to serve in Congress. She said only tribal nations determine citizenship. At a New Hampshire town hall in July, she told an audience member she shouldn’t have identified as Native American, she is not a citizen of a tribe and she is not a person of color.

She’s done more than offer a half-assed apology, but if Native Americans say she has more work to do, then she has more work to do.

In the meantime, between now and November 3, don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good!

She’s not Ward Churchill. She didn’t build her whole career on her family’s bullshit story.

IMO this is not a good reason to throw Liz under the bus, but I guess we’re in the home stretch already, where any flaw in < not my candidate > must be exploited before it’s too late

It’s more because Biden is the establishment. His toxic supporters have their own shows on MSNBC.

Or they’re the spooks “leaking” red scare stories from the CIA.

Well, you know damn well it’ll get exploited in the general. Better to address it now, at the primary stage than when it’s the only thing on every station in all 50 states.

Trump on the other hand…

Again, IOKIYAR. His people don’t care that he “fell in love with Kim” but let Bernie say that not eeverything Castro did was totally horrible, that is disqualifying.

Or pretty much every establishment Dem. They’ve all spent years cuddling up to MBS et al.

That graphic shows Tulsi among the dropped out candidates. Nope, she’s still in. Reddit is obviously another tool of the corrupt DNC, intentionally omitting candidates to favor the oligarchs who control them.

Lotsa Gramsci in this episode, BTW:

Yes, but was she ever really “in” the race?
