2020 Election Thread (formerly: 2020 Presidential Candidates Thread) (Part 1)

I’m putting this in the Warren/AOC thread… hope you don’t mind!

Exactly. UBI is right libertarian originated concept designed to a) maintain a minimum level of consumption in a future with 15% and up unemployment rates and b) smash the welfare state and replace it with a single program.

I also don’t think Andrew yang or anybody else hyped on it are being remotely honest about how much it costs…

Any Washingtonians here with opinions on Inslee? Other than his (silly) complaint about not having a special climate debate, he hasn’t had much mention here. On paper he’s got pretty much the perfect experience (multi-term congressman and major-state governor), and while he was a blue-dog as congressman he seems to be pretty progressive on climate change, health care, and immigration, three rather pressing issues this cycle.

I would vote for him but he is my governor so you know.
He has done good for the state. My only gripe is ‘yay another white male running for president’.

Moderate “dark horse” governers have sneaked through the pack to win on a couple of other occasions where the field was pretty crowded (Carter and Clinton are the obvious examples), so he seems like someone to watch.

I don’t think that the nominee needs to be a white man. I also don’t think that the nominee needs to not be a white man. If minorities or women like Yang and Williamson rise to the top, it should be for their quality, as happened in the last 3 election cycles.

In the interests of only talking about recent things, and not random stuff from decades ago…

Uh, Joe, there’s a very good reason he didn’t call you “boy” and it’s not the fact that he liked you.

Civility!

Also, lest I be accused of being cynical, I’m sure that the news out of yesterday’s fundraiser will do nothing to impact Biden’s newly-acquired “progressive” bona fides.

“No one’s standard of living would change” is exactly the kind of accidentally-too-honest campaigning I expect from a true champion of the middle class who’s 150% dedicated to tackling record income inequality and the looming disaster of climate change.

If your lifestyle would fundamentally downgrade under the proposed plan of 70% on income over $10,000,000 then you need a change in lifestyle. I would pay 100% of my income over $10,000,00.

I can’t imagine how I would run out of money on $100,000 / year, let alone $10,000,000.

Damn. I almost made it through that screed without puking. Almost. Along with this:

Biden should be done. I suspect he is not, but if there were any justice, he would be.

That dude from At The Drive-In talked about touring with Beto

“At the drive in”? That’s really not enough for me as far as political/punk cred. I at least need a reference from Krist Novoselic, Henry Rollins or Ian MacKay.
