2020 Election Thread (formerly: 2020 Presidential Candidates Thread) (Part 1)

Punk politicians? Canada might know a thing or two about that.

Has Joey Shithead ever run for office? Cause maybe he should!

Fingers crossed:

Biden’s already bleeding from every orifice and no one’s even taken a shot at him yet. Biden is completely dependent on the big money donors in the party. He has no real base. And, unlike HRC, Biden doesn’t control the DNC. I bet they pull the plug soon. It’s only going to get worse. “Premature withdrawal” has been Biden’s pattern in his previous presidential campaigns.

The Democrats in charge would very much appreciate it if you’d stop pointing out that their preferred candidate keeps acting like a piece of shit.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), who represents a key early primary state, said, “I think it’s not helpful to Democrats to attack each other at this stage.”

What stage, exactly, would you prefer these kinds of things to happen at, Jeanne? Because you sound an awful lot like the people who leap out of the shadows after every mass shooting to scream “NOW IS NOT THE TIME!” We can’t point out garbage remarks during the general election, because that would hurt the Democratic candidate’s chances of winning. We also can’t point them out once the primary is underway, because that would hurt the eventual nominee. Now we apparently can’t even point them out before the primary has even officially started. And every unofficial primary season seemingly starts immediately after the most recent election, so there technically is no time during which we might ever be able to point out garbage remarks without it hurting Democrats’ chances at re-election.

Hell of a system y’all have built, here.

Durbin said the way for Democrats to manage these disagreements is “to try be respectful about it.”

“You don’t characterize someone as an evil person because you disagree on a certain issue,” he said.

I very well fucking will characterize someone as an evil person if they’d prefer to shoot a black person instead of help them, Dick. And I very well fucking will take exception to someone who should know better in the year of our lord twenty-nineteen than to speak in glowing terms about how well they managed to get along with those people while joking that they never used a racial epithet to describe them.

I may have missed something. When did Biden suggest shooting black people? Or shoot one himself (rather than help them)?

Biden didn’t. The segregationists and white supremacists he’s repeatedly lavished praise on, though…

To be totally clear, there’s a big difference between “lavishing praise” on someone and explaining how you fundamentally disagreed with them but found ways to work on common goals. Which is what he was doing.

Which is why they said:

Which is entirely accurate.

Joe Biden didn’t also “fundamentally disagree” with them since he entered his office on the promise to keep race segregated in schools.

I think I could probably find a good excuse not to give a positive eulogy for Strom Thurmond if given the opportunity, and I might be a tad bit more circumspect about touting the fact that noted segregationist and white supremacist James Eastland was my mentor.

Biden’s whole shtick has been “oh woe for the days are gone when I could go out to dinner with a man who openly considered black people an inferior race and not get called out for it.” Like there was some blissful time when the Senate used to work for the good of everyone in spite of people’s disagreements. The reality is that the Senate in Biden’s time didn’t work for everyone, it worked primarily for white people (as it always has), and since then people have decided that being collegial with those who refuse to recognize the fundamental humanity of their fellow citizens is not worth the price of admission.

Not about the candidates, per se, but the broken system that they will be exploiting:

You know those Mid-West states people wring their hands about deserving representation? The candidates don’t give a shit about them. Coastal elites already decide things, it’s just that it happens to be Florida, instead of New York or California.
