That post’s headline in full is…
Bernie Sanders just traveled to Canada with diabetes patients to purchase affordable insulin: “Americans are paying $300 for insulin. In Canada they can purchase it for $30. We are going to end pharma’s greed, which is murdering innocent people and ruining lives."
On that note…
I’m gonna shamelessly steal this from Hank Green, but this is what happens when you arrive at the mistaken conclusion that making more money is the same thing as creating more value: killing people is an acceptable result if it means those who are left are able to boost your profit margins by even a dollar.
Thank you!
I am the bottom left corner if there ever was a bottom left corner
I am currently ignoring Williamson as irrelevant and inconsequential, but if she gains any traction I may have to rethink that. There is a rumor, which I cannot seem to verify, that there are right wing interests supporting her campaign (without her approval) in order to make dems look goofy. She is a vapid conspiracy theorist who covers her nonsense with flower child cute. Yuck.

Note: this is not speculating about mental illness. This is not looking at someone’s behaviour and saying it’s due to mental illness (or that it must be).
This is pointing out that a Presidential candidate has dangerous attitudes toward mental illness. That she is promoting many of the same myths and misinformation that get people with mental illness killed.
ETA: not sure what is up with the links. Copy-paste brings them up in a new tab.
Ari Melber is interviewing her on MSNBC now. Sigh.
ETA: he is actually calling out some her nonsense. So there is that.
Tweets which include underscore-name-underscore never Onebox properly; the BBS automatically converts the underscore into italics.
I don’t think that Williamson is that bad. I’ve always been pro-medicine myself, and I appreciate all the advances over the years from the pharmaceutical and medical engineering companies, but I’ve been told on many BB threads that I’m mistaken and the biomedical industry is 100% evil.
(My feeling about every single viable Democratic candidate – even the insurance apologists like Delaney, the science skeptics like Williamson, and the rapid oscillators like Biden – is that every one of them will bring actual experts into their inner circle and pay attention to their advice. This is the antithesis of what we’re seeing now.)
Can you provide a couple of links?
Well, speaking only for myself, I would like to think I am not 100% evil… (stuffs tail in coat, covers horns with hat)
I do agree about the experts, though. No one knows enough on their own to run this government.
No, because some of the fights there are best left to rot in obscurity.
I’ll just put this here for your perusal:
I do disagree with one statement in the article:
The trouble for patients with clinical depression is a lot of them don’t want to get help: Mental illness is still stigmatized by a lot of people.
because it reads a lot like “it’s your own fault if you don’t get better.” Treatment-resistant depression exists. That I know because I have it. It can also be because treatment is not easily or readily affordable. Especially when the personalities of all parties play a huge role. Yup, just like you can have treatment-resistant cancer, you can have treatment-resistant mental illness. If we don’t blame a cancer patient when treatment fails, why do we blame people with mental illness?
Best criticism of Harris’s platform comes from the last person I expected it to (39 sec)…
Not a huge Gabbard fan, but that was nothing but net.
Biden seems to be taking it in the chops again. Uninspiring performance to say the least.
