2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine (Part 1)

I know this whole thing is senseless but if your goal is to take over a country why would you take out the largest power plant risking contaminating the entire area making it useless for years to come?

Maybe to prevent it from joining the EU and/or NATO, and to dissuade others from the same?

I guess, maybe, but that would mean he may back out.

I’m certainly no expert in world domination but this seems like a silly plan.

They might be calculating that the Ukrainians will put safety above territory and retreat.

You want to get rid of people living in Ukraine? This is how you get rid of people living in Ukraine…

No, he just wants to get rid of Ukranians living in Ukraine. You know, a sort of cleansing. Only ethnic in nature. Good Russians won’t mind a bit of radiation, after all.

What the actual fuck!? Russia has guaranteed their pariah status with this act. I cannot see China still remaining silent if the reactor actually winds up melting down due to this. сука Š±Š»ŃŃ‚ŃŒ!

Shooting at nuclear reactors seems like it should be a war crime right?

Absolutely horrific and I don’t see an end to this without social upheaval bringing about regime change in Russia.

The fact that a nuclear power plant is being shelled is absolutely terrifying, but the latest reports I’m seeing is that the building currently on fire is an administration building.

From NPR just now:

Of course, maybe more than one building is on fire. :frowning:

God, I hope this is true. To contaminate the land and sediment for generations with radioactive poison is not a legacy Putin should be allowed to leave for anyone.
