Fucking finally.

Better late than never, though “at once” would have been so much better and saved who even knows how many Ukrainian lives.

Ashton-Cirillo’s comments reached Washington. US Senator J. D. Vance, who opposes further US military aid to Ukraine, said the former journalist "threatens physical violence to anyone who circulates 'Russian propaganda.

I would assume he took this as a personal threat. And maybe it was?

The speaker of Canada’s House of Commons has apologised for praising an individual at a parliamentary meeting who fought for a Nazi military unit during the second world war.

My
@globeandmail
interview: "House Speaker apologizes after MPs honour man who fought with Nazi unit. The scene in Parliament will have potentially serious ramifications beyond Canada, said Ivan Katchanovski, a University of Ottawa political scientist who has published on the SS unit and is writing a book about the Ukraine war. He called the standing ovation “beyond comprehension.”

He pointed out that Russia has falsely used the “de-Nazification” of Ukraine as propaganda to gain support for its invasion of the country last year “This will be used by Russia in the war against Ukraine,” he said, suggesting that both Canadian politicians and Mr. Zelensky will need to quickly distance themselves from the scene in Parliament.

Dr. Katchanovski says that the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS was renamed the First Ukrainian Division at the end of the war - a move to distance the unit from Nazi ties, and depict its members as fighting to protect Ukraine from a Russia invasion. But he said the volunteer unit was originally formed in 1943, after Germany lost the Battle of Stalingrad, under the Waffen SS, the combat branch of the Nazi Party’s paramilitary. Mr. Katchanovski says the unit has been linked to massacres of civilians carried out in villages in Poland. It has been a source of ongoing controversy in Ukraine, he says, with Mr. Zelenksy, who is Jewish, publicly condemning a march celebrating the unit that was held in Kyiv a few months before Russia’s invasion."

Looks like Ukraine is booby trapping/remote detonating their drones now…

It would be very interesting to know how many layers of cunning are involved.

Conceivably that incident could be anything from the drone’s payload being given a fuze with anti-handling features that wouldn’t be especially out of place in the 1940s, to something implemented in software reusing the IMU to detect handling; to someone doing a bit of tensorflow lite (if it’s a drone with one or more cameras) to detect people approaching the drone even before they touch it; or some combination of these.

Speaking exclusively to Kyiv Post, the partisan movement of Ukrainians and Tatars in Crimea (ATESH) said it obtained key information about the location and activities of high-ranking Russian commanders from cash-strapped officers in exchange for financial rewards.

“Delays in payments alone do not force the military armed forces of the Russian Federation to go against the Russian authorities,” a spokesperson for the group said, adding that those who help them also believe their country is “waging a criminal war and that it needs to stop.”

“But the financial reward only helps them to decide on cooperation with the ATESH movement, it serves as an additional incentive,” the spokesman said.

ATESH did not say how much money changed hands but did say it was enough to cover the risks for the officers and their families.

Someone tell JD fucking Vance that the ‘progress’ is in still existing against all the odds, and in stopping Russia rolling over sundry other parts of eastern Europe in due course. Not that he would care if either of those things had not been prevented.
