I’m not a fan of the Stern Father approach to dispensing justice but he knew exactly what he was doing, just like the other insurrectionists. Five years inside is probably enough to allow him to think about his unlawful actions, though he’ll probably end up connecting to a white supremacist prison gang instead.

I’m certainly not against harsher charges for putschists who also assaulted people; but it seems like a real failure(whether of the charges available or of willingness to use them, or a combination of the two) that the gulf is so wide between the sentences being given to people who tried to overthrow the government to install their dictator, but didn’t encounter or were able to brush past law enforcement, and this guy who gave a cop a cut that required 7 whole stitches while attempting to overthrow the government to install his dictator.
