60 containers of bull semen stolen

So how much of the active ingredient is in each container?

Can’t shake the feeling that it’s all clown honks and turkey basters.

That is a fine title for a Country album.

I grew up on a farm and my dad used AI for a few years… one “serving” of the active stuff is in a small plastic tube that is roughly the size and diameter of a plastic coffee stirrer. One tank can have several hundred such straws.

Re: frozen straws

I just came across this 2011 article:

The load in question was travelling between Columbus, Ohio and a breeding facility in Laredo, Texas. According to this report, the canisters could have contained as many as 300 to 400 straws, each packing one millilitre of bull goodness.

The going rate for the sperm is apparently $18 to $50 per straw, depending on the quality of the donor, so the value of the spunked Greyhound wad could be as high as $80k.

Just so long as nobody is popping a test tube open , dipping a finger in, then tasting it so they can determine the authenticity and quality of the product

Unless they managed to swoop in partway through the packing process I suspect that the container would provide a fairly strong clue. Liquid nitrogen is a fair bit more touchy than dry ice in terms of safe handling and long-enough-for-transport use so the fully packaged product would be fairly distinctive. It wouldn’t tell you exactly what is inside; but there are presumably only so many sorts of cryogenic samples leaving your average farm.

Looks like Thermo’s Arctic Express dry shippers. Hard to gauge the exact size from the picture but I’m guessing the 10L (that’d be the LN2 capacity, though we go by weight when charging them). Should stay at cryogenic temps for about three weeks.

Probably a good resale market to the testicle-tanning crowd. Tucker’s answer to Goop, so to speak.
