My wife has taught elementary school for 20 years and says that’s complete nonsense.
That’s some quality victim blaming you’ve got going on there.
Verifiable citation required; otherwise, you’re just rumor-mongering.
Whole lot of “yeah, but…” going on here for something that wasn’t a problem until some asshat decided to turn it into one…
Teachers are supposed to help kids, not make their lives worse.
Right?
But if the kid had been rich & White, I bet there would be a whole different type of commentary going on…
To quote from an old thread:
White supremacy is bipartisan.
was that sarcasm or seriously meant?
obligatory poe’s law reference.
Maybe all the district-issued Chromebooks should include a taser for such circumstances? Then the teacher can skip the middleman. /s
Can confirm. I am in university and, at best, 20% will do video. Everybody else is a floating name, a cat pic, or an anime avatar.
A student was fidgeting with a toy. If this made the teacher uncomfortable or was disruptive, they should have asked the student to please put it away. Anything beyond that was absolutely a vast overreaction, and I don’t care what the idiotic “mandatory” policy is, this was over VIDEO chat and an exception was clearly warranted. If a teacher isn’t capable of critical thinking and ignoring draconic zero tolerance policies when they’re unjust and would put an innocent child’s life at risk, they have no business teaching in the first place.
But also the extension of workplaces and classrooms into peoples homes, particularly during covid lockdowns.
I have asked my management about these issues. Where does their workplace start and end? Will they have to test and tag every appliance in my home? Am I covered by workers compensation in my own apartment block?
Yeah. Again it’s some of the “these are the rules we have to follow” thing. It’s certainly possible I have no doubt. Just feels more the typical zero tolerance bs we normally get with schools.
My kids have had to face that all too many times including my oldest having the cops called on him regardless of the situation and me being told “well but that’s our procedure”.
However in the case nobody pointed a gut at the teacher. Why would you bring that up at all, dude?
And who says in the virtual setting all of the same rules apply? These people are at home, not at school. Are you a lawyer or justice, or just a concerned citizen?
You conveniently forget the part where the teacher knew this was a fucken fake gun, so nobody was ever in danger. And anyone in the US of A who has no clue that sending the cops over to a PoC’s house puts them in mortal danger has no business being a teacher, because there is a lot of stuff they need to catch up on first.
The same people who think it right and proper for white men to invade a state capital with very real firearms get all fainty and flustered if a disabled black child has a toy gun in his own home, and call for police protection. Naw, not racist at all…
Maybe look into what a BB gun is…
Maybe don’t be so quick to exaggerate and offer piss poor excuses for inhumane antisocial behavior that stems from systemic racism, which don’t actually pertain to this particular situation at hand.
But… But… Just World! Rules! Laws! Obedience!
This is a bad example, as the the cop should not be considering going for his gun at that distance, even if he truly fears for his life. When you are that close to someone you never go for your gun, as you can’t draw and aim before they get to you. In this picture the cop’s hand is outstretched and he’s ready to dive for the gun hand if the guy tries to draw.
If you want to illustrate white privilege with this image, it’s that the guy wasn’t shot/arrested for having the gun in the first place, but this particular cop’s position is not what illustrates it.
