A brand without a base: Kmart, Sears, TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Neiman-Marcus join Nordstroms in kicking Ivanka Trump's products to the curb

At that point it’s worth buying just to make a Youtube video of it on fire.

Ok this is a sticky one. Certainly the argument could be made that it’s already rented, so you’re not actually enriching anyone by attending (if anything, eating your share or just a little more of the shrimp might actually take money out of those people’s pockets). And on top of that, the Trump name is more often licensed than an actual representation of the ownership, so that money’s already been spent too.

But in the long run, even appearing to show support for those properties is damaging. It makes them seem like appealing places to have events for others, and the building owner (if not Trump) might never see the negative consequences of associating the business with that name.

I think there is a possible exception if the property was booked before Trump became the nominee, or even before he became president. But any booking after that happened is either a political statement in itself or is so blithe as to be equally reprehensible. I think it’s acceptable to decline to attend the reception if the property was booked before the nomination, and I think it’s imperative to decline if it was booked after the election.

Personally, if family members turned my wedding into some kind of political statement just because I didn’t have the foresight to see that Trump would become president against all the odds, I’d be pissed. I say go support your family.

Um, the, uh, news story, um, doesn’t really, uh, back up Cory’s description. Yeah, Ivanka had a bad week, but not that bad.

Nordstrom’s isn’t picking up the Ivanka Trump line up next season. Nieman-Marcus is dropping the Ivanka Trump jewelry line (don’t know about clothing). TJ Maxx and Marshalls are “distancing” themselves (I think they are still carrying Ivanka Trump product, but integrating it into the regular stock). Sears and Kmart are discontinuing the Trump Home product line from their online stores, not Ivanka Trump (though they may not even carry it, for all I know).

Cory’s premise still holds, though: the overall Trump branding isn’t doing well on the retail level.

You go and then do as much vandalism as possible. Maybe set off the fire alarm. Although that’s illegal if it’s a false alarm, so set something on fire first.

I’m so glad to see you back on BB. This kind of wording (and your excellent post) is one reason why.
offer to support them in suing the Turmp Kwik ‘n’ Klassee Kasino Resort for ruining their wedding with fascism.
That’s so crazy I can’t believe it hasn’t happened already. “We are suing for emotional distress because our happy gathering was subsumed by this political miasma”, or something.

I’m sure there are other ways that you can communicate to the property and still attend.

I don’t get this at all.

Vancouver has the best Chinese food on the west coast of North America… or used to.
And the quotes around ““luxury Chinese”” what is that supposed to mean.
It’s the most elevated cuisine in the world.

Thanks all for the input. I don’t know whether my niece actually is having her reception at a Trump property. I’m thinking not. This was more a hypothetical kind of conversation my wife and I were having.

Some underpaid immigrant will just have to clean up after you.

I’m imagining Donald makes an executive order that 1.) these retailers have to start carrying his daughter’s clothing line again, and 2.) all Americans are required to buy them immediately.

I’m also imagining Bannon tells him “no, bad idea, this weakens our other moves” and so Trump fires him.
