Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. A dude got caught about a year ago at University of Michigan hospital after uploading lots of kiddie porn on his work computer.

Possibly Trump-friendlies at Mar-a-Lago are not geniuses. Notwithstanding that, Trump and his stooges have been pretty much mindlessly waving their dicks in our faces since day one; an indication of ‘we-don’t-give-a-fuck-ism’ in all its dubious glory. Then there’s desperation.

True. And up to November 2016, no one thought the US would ever have the tiniest chance of morphing into a fascist state.

Wait, what happened in Nov 2014?

Ah, it’s always lurked just below the surface. How else would the likes of Joseph McCarthy be possible so soon after WWII?

Citation needed; activists of color and other marginalized groups have been sounding the alarm bells about this shit for ages, but our voices were ignored and/or suppressed.

A-freakin’-men.

I see your point. (I was lucky enough not to have lived through that.) Just speaking from my own awareness that American culture – by and large – was not headed in that particular direction. Checks and balances and ‘fear’ of the law worked to an extent that gave the impression of some rightness to the world. (Think Nixon.) Criminal politicians were (not enough to suit me, actually) still being forced out (allowed to at least pick up their marbles and leave) for infractions that now seem to only be badges of honor to an even larger quarter than before. There’s been a moral shift; yes, agreed, there seemed to be an ugliness laying in wait, but Trump (and GOP riding his coattails) has given the high sign. The difference is day and night.

Oh, I’m far too young to have lived through one of Wisconsin’s darkest hours, but I’m left leaning enough to recognize the peril every Republican president after Eisenhower (and also him, but he seems to have felt bad about it) put the US in. The trend toward fascism has greatly accelerated in the last 3 years, but the potential was there with Nixon, Reagan and both Bushes, particularly under The Lesser.

“It’s OK, we moved all the criminal calls to the special crime server.”

“I’ve never heard it called the ‘crime server’ before.”

“Uh, oh yeah, right, nobody calls it that. Ever. You didn’t hear it from me.”

I expect more Protect-the-POTUS powerpoint activity: It wouldn’t take much editing to the Ukraine talking point letter to bring it up to snuff for this latest ‘event’.

I never quite understood how the Red Scare came about after vanquishing another bogeyman.

Got any book recommendations?

It isn’t in the free episodes anymore but Dan Carlin goes into it in detail in one of his podcasts. He doesn’t excuse the anti-communist behavior but gives it perspective as these were all people who dealt with anarchists and communists actually bombing and killing folk some 30 years earlier.

I thought just the body language in pictures of that meeting was pretty damning. It wasn’t the usual ritualized comity of diplomatic meetings, it was the pleasure of a band of thieves reuniting on return from a successful heist. “Can you believe this shit?” Trump looked comfortable for once. He was with his people.

If so - is the money being routed to the NRA from Vlad again?

Because that’s how you get another article if impeachment.

I’m sure this isn’t related AT ALL.
