It’s not the first time I’ve seen something like this:
Crucet was scheduled to speak at another event on campus on Thursday. The event was subsequently canceled. On Twitter, Crucet said the event “was canceled because the administration said they could not guarantee my safety or the safety of its students on campus because of open carry laws.”
Are there people complaining about that again? Probably, but they are down at Georgia Southern, which is down near the coast in Statesboro. I doubt these assholes even know about pride weekend and rainbow crosswalks…
Intellectuals can very much be the targets of this kind of political violence.
I didn’t mean to sound skeptical. I’m just noticing a pattern, like open carry laws are a means of suppressing the speech of people who aren’t favoured by gun owners.
Obviously I’m being slightly hyperbolic. But all they need is 5/4. I hope as much as the next person that Roberts does the right thing, but he’s a mixed bag and really seems to be looking for excuses to tow the right wing line. Only goes against it when he can’t find a good excuse. See the gutting if the voting rights act because things supposedly aren’t so bad in the south anymore… sigh…
It’s damned hard keeping up with every crap thing the shitshow in the White House throws at the US. Every. Fucking. Day. Forgive us for missing the occasional extra Dumpsterfire of the Day, please.
