I dunno. the people who were ignoring it before seem to be doing just fine ignoring it now. And i’m sure if Trump actually goes down in flames they’ll either continue to believe he was the target of a conspiracy or that he was an aberration not representative of the republican party or the US in any way… Heck i still hear some older people argue that Nixon and Vietnam were good things. its amazing people’s ability to put on blinders.
Hopefully enough people are waking up to influence elections and change some policy though. I want to be optimistic…

I’m guessing this is closest to the mark. “Natural law” is a common dog-whistle to mean “your original genitals = your gender = your sex”. They’re removing as many trans rights as possible and have been testing the waters on removing LGB workplace protections as well. “Natural” = straight & cisgendered.

I was listening to a podcast the other day where Jesse Bering was the guest. He himself if not a capital-E-capital-P Evolutionary Psychologist, but plays in that space. Admittedly, he generally seems to be a pretty careful academic, but he spent a large chunk of the podcast just complaining about people not liking evo-psych. He was just willfully obtuse about why evo-psych and arguments about what is “natural” bother people and are dangerous. Especially that he is gay, studies religion, writes about sexual orientation and is a “Professor of Science Communication.” He got pretty infamous for his article in Salon about women’s bodies having “natural defenses” against being raped and becoming pregnant if raped. If he can’t see the obvious damage that labeling things are “natural” or even “adaptive” has done, I don’t know what to say.

Nonetheless, when asked by Weir whom he’d vote for in 2020, Zimmerman didn’t hesitate.
“I am 100 percent certain I’m voting for President Trump in 2020,” he said.
At the end of his segment, Weir took a guess as to why Trump supporters like Zimmerman are standing by him even as he hurts them financially.
“They don’t see him as failing,” he said. “They see him as fighting for them.”

It’s pretty clear some people in this country would volunteer for a 45% chance of being eaten by a tiger so long as black people get a 75% chance, women get at least 60%, and anyone hoping to immigrate gets a 95% chance to be tiger food. I can’t imagine what living with that kind of mindset must be like, but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want to.
