I think only Trump and handful of others are disordered enough to not think they are doing the wrong thing, and only a few of those at the top are anti-social enough to not care. I think most of them (like Graham) are doing what they are doing because they lack the courage to do anything else, not because they’ve done a cold, machiavellian calculation. Because of that, they probably feel nervous all the time and increasingly desperate.

“I’m disappointed you did this because it’s not like you” is a much more effective way of coaching good behaviour than telling someone they are bad for what they did. Trust me, I learned it in a parenting course! (Notice the “let’s” at the beginning of the last sentence, also straight out of how to talk to small children)

Thinking about this possibility makes me so sad. Imagine the idea that 64-year-old man in America is being blackmailed regarding their sexuality. That only works if the man has so thoroughly internalized the badness of being gay that they can’t imagine being accepted.
Obviously we don’t know if it’s true, but if it is I sincerely hope Graham has some sort of epiphany, leaves politics, marries a long-time love and tells the anti-gay GOP to chew it.
But I don’t really think that Trump is blackmailing Graham. Whether Graham is gay or not, I think the support for Trump comes from a place of pure spineless deference to authority.

Considering the men in his peer group, keep in mind that it might not be the homosexuality they have on him, but an Epstein equivalent (13yo boys instead of 13yo girls, that sort of thing). And you know what they say about being found with a dead girl or a live boy…

IIRC, the about-face was very sudden. One day (post election, too), Graham was still in the anti-Trump GOP group. Giving Trump shit for disrespecting John McCain. Then he goes golfing with President Biff. The next day, they’re best friends.
Not to give Graham undue credit, but I’ve suspected it’s less blackmail on him as an individual and more that someone from the GOP showed him the contents of the big, golden box that has all the GOP-Russia-Trump-(possibly Epstein?) dirt in it, and he went all:
