The parrot’s voice sounds legit to me.
Why the scare quotes?
Birds don’t have vocal cords, either. They have a syrynx instead, and that accounts for the clarity and tone of a bird’s voice. As you know, some birds are better talkers than others. This is true even among species that are known to be good talkers.
My handle & avatar are that of my ex-parrot. He was a Yellow-Naped Amazon, and they are supposed to be among the best talkers. His vocabulary, for whatever reason, was quite limited, but his voice was clear.
My present parrot [GONZO!] is a Quaker. His speaking voice is gravelly, but understandable. He also chirps & tweets like other birds, something Vern never did.
GONZO! also says words in context… for example, it he sees the neighbor’s dog he will say ‘there’s the dog’, or when I give him fresh water, he’ll say ‘water water water’. If he wants a bath, he’ll say ‘wanna bath’. He is still learning…
I have no doubt that it knows what it is saying. Context is everything.
A flying toddler at that. Not evil, so much as single-minded & curious.
ETA: @anon73430903 ‘Never break a promise to a witch’… heh…
I would add ‘Never tell a Genie you want to be able to fly’
