One of my friends (who is gay) frequently uses the acronym TGTF - Too Gay To Function - to describe some of these guys. Defending one bigot by giving an example of another is in no way productive. Did the guy you’re talking about have a massive audience and TV show? I’m guessing no, which is why you might start to see yours as a false equivalency.
PS: it’s also worth mentioning that homosexuals have and do continue to fight against hatred and pejorative assholes like this guy, while Phil-the-redneck is a fat, white, christian millionaire… Can’t imagine he’s met quite as much hate speech as gays.
I should have said it on my original post: it’s a short jump from “certain gay men” to “gay men”, just as it’s a short jump from “some rednecks” to “rednecks”. Even your own post:
Religious power has brandished the stick of intolerance for so long and now they’re pissed when they’re on the receiving end? Good luck. The increasing irrelevance of religion (sorry man, I know your beliefs) couldn’t make me happier and the fact that religion is now preaching tolerance in order to protect themselves makes me laugh.
You generalize everyone, and every religion. You just painted every single religion as being the same. It has to be one of the most ignorant things I’ve seen in this entire thread, Phil Robertson’s original comments included.
And hey, man, this is the reason I had to work on my accent when I was in college. If I wanted to be taken seriously, I couldn’t keep my mid-South drawl. Because everyone knows that people with a drawl are idiotic bigots and everyone with a northern accent is intelligent and tolerant, amirite?
I’ll take that as your acceptance of the fact that your beliefs in the cloud cowboy are fucking nonsensical shit.
No goalpost moving going on here… you might wont to work on your debating skills, bud.
Your claim: Phil’s opinions are acceptable because there’s intolerant gay people as well. My response: yes, I don’t mind if both sets of bigots are run down with large machinery (it sucks when someone agrees with the thing that’s supposed to be the killer blow, huh?).
Your claim: Some religions are less bullshit than others. My response: prove it. All I’m asking for is proof of what you say and that’s supposedly moving the goalposts?
@Mitch_M1 I’d rather be an arrogant prick than a fucking idiot (plus I don’t see any of you disproving my arrogant prick points). If you care to engage in a discussion of the the topic that’s cool but you and Shane just seem interested in showing us all how little cognitive capacity you have.
I mean, I could easily contest what you said after that, but why?
If there’s three things I’ve learned by growing up in a bigoted area, it’s that a.) bigots are always sure they’re right, and b.) they’re damned hard to convince otherwise, and c.) they often misrepresent what’s been said to fit their agenda.
Seeya later mate, I actually don’t know why you bother coming here anymore. I’m still waiting for any reasoned response to my challenge of explaining why any religion is less bullshit than another, and where I’ve allegedly misrepresented you. Also, what’s with the full stop after your bullet points? Are they abbreviations for something?
It’s always a good day when I’m being paid to taunt silly people on BB.
The exact moment all reasonable discourse is officially over. Your command of the English language astounds me.
Well, I’ll say this much: [quote=“teapot, post:89, topic:17998”]
I actually don’t know why you bother coming here anymore.

There’s some damned interesting stuff here.
And you know, it’s amazing to me that you don’t even realize that you keep moving the goalposts. At one point, you wanted me to refute a strawman version of something I said that was almost completely in your imagination.
It seems likely that he will say something like this again. Won’t the fact that he gets to continue his TV show only encourage the people who hold the same views as him?
So we are just supposed to ignore it? Please show me how ignoring hate helps to bring about change.
NO…television pretending to be reality, see that is the lie bit and what makes it different, if they just said it was a show acted like any other then it would just be stupid and bigoted and insulting to the people it stereotypes, but not a lie through and through. The very people this show appeals to would hate the kind of people that the actors really are. suckers.
Ironic isn’t it?
But now i duck out of the conversation because @Shane_Simmons and @teapot are duking it out something fierce, i wouldn’t want to interrupt their private fight.
I thought we were done before? You wished me good day and everything (though for some reason it didn’t sound genuine).
You keep using these words like ‘straw man’ (it’s two words but of course someone with an excellent command of the english language, such as yourself, knows that) and ‘moving goalposts’ without explaining where and how I’m doing such a thing. You then tell me you could easily contest what I said (much more convincing than actually doing it) but do nothing of the sort. You said exactly this: “You just painted every single religion as being the same.” To which I responded: “Yes, they are” because they’re all based on nonsense myths and the supernatural to some extent.
damned
Isn’t your sky wizard going to smite you for this?
PS: So you know I didn’t change the start of my post in response to your comment, I changed it because it would almost certainly raise the ire of our good friend Falcor and potentially get deleted.
@redesigned thanks man… at this point it’s just amusing myself for the final work hours of 2013
Gays have been discriminated against, persecuted, and denied (and continue to be denied) their civil rights as a targeted GROUP. What’s so confusing? You did so above by deliberately using “agenda” as if gays want more (something sinister) than to just have the same rights and protections as straight citizens. What is the MORE that you seem to think that gays want short of being treated fairly? To destroy “traditional” marriage? Make every citizen gay? Prey on children? Funny, that’s exactly the kind of vicious lies that hate groups spew about gays. It’s the kind of viciousness that provokes violent attacks on gays and seeks to attack their freedom. It’s precisely why “hate speech” is used to describe that kind of speech. Sadly, this country (as usual) is behind everybody else in tolerating it and not treating it as more of a crime.
Sniffle. Sniffle. Poor widdle guys. The mean people didn’t sit down, shut up, and take it when the ignorant homophobe said a bunch of vile stuff about people who happen to be gay.
IT’S A WITCH HUNT!!! You guys are like Rosa Parks.
Such a witch hunt. This guy’s probably blacklisted now, being followed by the government for his brave political views…
Or, as I’d put it, A&E realized that it would look bad for them to shoot the man-eating tiger since they’re the ones that fed him long pork in the first place. Without that contract with the channel, all of the Robertsons would still be the khaki-clad, clean-shaven yuppies in those earlier photos, and no one would know or care which orifice Phil Robertson likes to put it in.
see, you have a certain responsibility as a human to know, absolutely, that televison programming is not real, and its only purpose is to sell you things by having people make pretend.
your expectations may be the problem here, because everything on tv is a carefully managed and manufactured fiction. its just how it is. its their job.
suspend your disbelief when it suits you, but dont be incredulous that its all made up.
yes, your motives seem pure, why would anyone use agenda to describe what you are promoting here? you are the one repeating the lies, because of an arguably poorly chosen word by someone else.
i am just about the biggest ally you could have, and i recommend you catch your breath.
One of these channels is not like the others… Okay, they’re hardly science shows, but you can’t lump Punkin Chunkin and Idiot Abroad in with Honey Boo Boo etc.
