I’m sure it’s very, very bad but there’s no way I’m clicking on a link to a Fox News story.
It’s WGN for NW Indiana…it’s a real news program.
Ok, weird that it says Fox on the link but not on the WGN website.
Not much information there. They just referenced a Telemundo report that also didn’t have any real info other than the person who identified herself to a reporter as the mother saying it was all a lie and that she wasn’t the one to press charges herself. No clarification on whether she’s actually saying he’s innocent of the crime or not.
Not much to it, but here is an Internet archive link
This is pretty much it
After the arrest, a Telemundo reporter spoke to a woman who identified herself as the girl’s mother.
When asked about the rape suspect, the woman told the reporter “everything they are saying against him is a lie.” She also said she did not file criminal charges against Fuentes. However, the decision to press criminal charges is up to the state.
ETA I took too long @Otherbrother
I know we just did the whole “how do we know this story is even true” thing from the other side but the article is so scant on details I have to ask how we even know the woman in question was really the minor’s mother.
From a Google translation of the original Telemundo story:
“Everything they are saying against him is a lie,” said the woman who opened the door of the house where Gerson Fuentes lived, arrested for the rape of a 10-year-old girl in Ohio. The woman, who did not want to give her name, identified herself as the minor’s mother, stated that she is “well”, and defended the detainee, assuring that she has not filed criminal charges against her.
So reporters knocked on the rapist’s door, a woman opened it a crack and said she was the girl’s mother and people were telling lies about the guy who confessed to the rape. Clearly there’s something weird going on here whether she was telling the truth about her identity or not.
ETA @anon23281680 @Otherbrother cokes all around.
I don’t doubt that it might be true that she is indeed the mother and also doesn’t believe that the man she was living with was the one who raped her daughter. (It’s a sad reality that in the majority of cases of child sexual abuse the perpetrator is a family friend or relative, and I would guess that most mothers of victims would never imagine that they were putting their children in danger by allowing them to spend time with the perpetrator, so extreme levels of denial after the fact are probably not uncommon.)
(Edit: @anon23281680 please, no more coke, I’m not thirsty. This whole discussion thread is really damn depressing and I am not seeking recognition for prolonging it.)
Unfortunately, I know of too many real situations where the parent of a child who has been raped either denies it happened at all or blames their child.
I hope that isn’t the case for this little girl. That the woman misspoke or was lying and isn’t the child’s mother. If she is. Well, I hope the child abuse investigator is paying attention and will try to protect her.
Same same. I’m done thinking about this. Too depressing. I’m going to go pet some cats instead
Whiffs of the rapist being the mother’s boyfriend.
Even in the ’70s women making their own decisions was called “abortion on demand” and dismissed as the crazy extremist position
The Sensible Mainstream™ always said “these decisions should be between a woman and her doctor” with the understanding that meant a male doctor and of course married women should ask their husbands first
That would be… not shocking, sadly. And, if true, mom defending the rapist over her child would be not shocking either. Sigh.
I guess that’s why Akin said “female body” instead of women; It includes raped children.
Sounds like the mom enabled the rapist. I hope like fuck that I am misreading that.
Every time I see a right wing talking head discussing this story they are practically falling over themselves to make sure to talk about the “horrors of illegal immigration” (which isn’t a correlation) and “Biden’s ‘open borders’ policy” (which isn’t a thing).
If the accused rapist is an undocumented immigrant, that’s a completely unrelated matter not even worth bringing into the discussion because there’s no correlation here. It’s like saying, “this shoplifter (is a rapist)”. It’s possible to be both of these things at the same time.
All it does is call back to Trump’s original lie that foreign countries are “sending” criminals to America.
There’s little focus on the crime, the victim, or that they had to go to another state to get an abortion — it’s all about the perpetrator’s alleged immigration status and the doctor that (legally) performed the procedure.
Attempted deflection from their abject cruelty; ain’t workin’.
